Finally succeeded in loading the pictures. Can you comment as soon as you see this? I need to decided whether to buy this engine.

Thanks
Joshua

RE: Fox

Yes it is a large case Fox engine. It is a .45 displacement from the marking on it too. The spinner backplate is actually integral with the drive washer so that it is the drive washer and the spinner backplate too. If I remember it was the deluxe version of the engine.
The easiest way to tell is that the small case .40 engines have a plug in carb that plugs into a socket or hole in the crankcase.
The big case engines use a flange mount carb that mounts on a flat flange on the crankcase.
Obviously, if you see the two sizes of engines side by side it is really noticeable too. The small case engine is really small in comparison.

Does it have the same bore as the 40 Large Case? I have a diesel 40 large case - absolutely a fantastic engine! If it is same bore I want to try it as a diesel.

They actually bored it out a little to make it a .45. So the .45 has a little bit larger diameter piston it it.
I never tried putting a DDD head from my .45 on the smaller .40 or larger .50, so I don't know if it will fit or not.
DDD shows one line item in his price list for the heads, but he states you need to specify which engine you have.

So, based on the way you can tell a Large from a small case - Fox is still making the large case engines. I went on their website and there are several?.

Thanks to Bob Davis I have a Fox 50 , he is in pretty tight with Fox. Think is the large case 45 bored to take the 50 piston and liner, they must have to them in their spares , you can see where 45 number ground off and restamped 50 , there was talk of them making them again but do not no if this will happen
they put together this " one off" reissue martin

Fox still sells the small case version of the .40 too.
The small case .40 is only slightly larger than a .25, .28, .32, .35, .or 36 engine so it would work as a performance upgrade in some cases.
The .40's they show all are the small case engines whereas the .45 and .50 engines are the large case engines.
