Taipan Tyro
I had the Tyro out for a run yesterday, after a long stint of bench warming.
It started straight up, as expected and pulled the model strongly for about 1/4 of the tank, then it gave the impression of the comp going soft. On closer inspection the bolts securing the cylinder had come loose. Back in the workshop, a good clean and a liberal dose of Locktite has it back together. We'll see later if this is a permanent fix. Disappointing as I love this little motor. Greg |

Greg compression is adjusted via the head not raising the cylinder off the block ( sorry poor joke)
Really hope all is well after cylinder "tied down tight" martin Had an issue with my little playboy PAW 06 was checking plane on bench and noticed a little vibration turns out the engine bolts 2/56 on one side of mount the missing the nuts engine is new very little time did 12K on a black 7x3 prop is a little light PAW states 7 x4 on break in will have to pick one up |

Greg Greg, I'm guessing that the Tyro has the same self tapping cylinder screw system as the Series 12 and 13 Taipan diesels? They were fine till the first strip down then they needed to be drilled and Tapped for 5-40 UN socket screws. The latter needed their head diameter skimmed.slightly. !/8' Whitworth also works but the socket headed screws are harder to get. Ray |

I was thinking that, but on inspection the holes seemed OK. Time will tell. I plan to give it a run soon and see what the damage is. The drilling & tapping part is the easy bit, grinding out the hardened cylinder flange is the tough part. Any thoughts on that? Martin, It really does pay to recheck your nuts from time to time. A late production example. Also three NIB Tyro's from different stages of production, early, mid and late.
Lastly, some photo's of my unrun example and box. I have an exhaust manifold/collector ring for it NIP. |

Ok group really surprised they use self tapping screws to hold on cylinder thought all used machine screws and tapped casting for same martin
is an invitation to failure down the road |

I mean the diameter of the larger screw itself is bigger than the hole that exists in the cyl flange. I have come across this with the Mk 12/13 I have. (No, not your one!) Greg |

(No, not your one!) Greg Just stick Mr Liner in Mr Three Jaw Chuck, tighten gently, and drill out holes with a twist drill mounted in an 'lectric drilling machine. Twist drills are much harder than Burford liners. Ray. PS don't turn on Mr Lathe while drilling! |

Ran the Tyro again today. Happy life.
The Locktite was enough to hold it all together. Thanks for all input. Ray, I'll remember that advice for when I do the larger Taipan. Greg |

off topic the ripmax coyote electric glider will got the MP JET 061D will be an easy conversion, cleaned out the whole front end for the mount 1 oz tank no space issues micro servo for throttle od course will be added |
