Fox .50 Diesel Conversion

1 Attachment(s)
I had promised Fiery a few months ago that I would run my Fox .50 with a Taipan 11x7 prop. I'm planning to do that tomorrow.

PS. it will wear a Fox EZJust carb and not the Irvine Jetstream you see.

Do let us know how it goes, The Fox .50 makes for a powerful diesel conversion.
I think that the Fox .50 engine would like a 12x8 prop or maybe a little bit larger prop even.
I was running a 12x8 prop on my Fox .45 diesel conversion. The diesel conversion doesn't like rev'ing up like a glow engine does.
I used a 12x6 prop on a OS .40LA conversion too.
So just be aware it may not like to rev up that much, as you may have to turn in the compression too much to be comfortable.

You're perzactly right, it turned the 11x7 @ 10,501 with carb fully open and the compression buried. I didn't any pictures. its too windy and cold, I just wanted to gitter done. I put about 8oz of Davis ABC mix through it in about 25 minutes at varying speeds. It was 60 this am and 40 now. It would rev that prop as quickly as I could move the throttle.

I don't know what it tells me but closing the throttle even by the tiniest amount reduced the rpm 100 immediately.

I just ran an ABC .46 with the stock muffler and a 12x6 three blade, It handily turn the three blade at 9.000 even and idles slightly burbly at 1,800. No bad in my book. Couldn't get a good picture, the sun is just too strong. You can't even see the extension I put on it with a 45 degree bend. I used 1200 degree solder to make the elbow in it.

That is a nice looking engine David. What is the throttle response like with the 12 x 6 3-blade fan?

Thanks Derek, for some reason the acceleration is boggy and smoky until about 4,500 rpm and from that point on it just like with the Taipan 11x7. I think a carb with a full width spraybar may cure that, the EZJust carb just has a little nub sticking out into the airstream.

I decided to check on the condition of the .50 today, I put its glow head back on and ran it with a Graupner 10.5x6, it turned it 12,750 rpm. I think its in good shape.
