MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
1 Attachment(s)
This is mounted in Nitro-Planes J-3 cub (sorry pix upload issue) hope to get a flight in this week, it was sitting in the back room, finished not flown yet
There are 2 MVVS 15s mine is the 3022 DFSR-RC (iron piston) and a 3029 GFSR-ABC. this strikes me as odd the ABC max prop stated 8x4 the iron piston 3029 9x5 max size I took it out to my back porch table it had a 10x5 black MAS. now for the strange part compression seemed low on flipping but after 10 or 12 off it went best we got was about 8400 my digital fish scale attached to the tail wheel gave me about 1.5 Lbs thrust. Changed the prop to 9X5 wood 9500-9600 thrust was 1.7Lbs fuel used DAVIS ABC -I do have some Davis 1/2A on the way we will see what we get on that brew. The wood Zinger may have cost me 500RPM, will have to pick up a MAS. Idle around 3500-3600 . I think by turning in the air bleed screw we will get maybe a lower idle and we did have a small lag to wide open on the throttle I have to get a small hole in the cowl for an easy access to the screw hot re starts just a couple of flips, when it was on the 10x5 a rather load harsh exhaust, went away on the 9x5 in both cases black oil out the exhaust its piped to the rear exits under elevator so plane stays nice and clean. by the 4th run we had to back off compression about a half turn to get rid of the over compression martin |
RE: MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
An other thought looking at instruction sheets that come with the engines PAW states up to a 10x6 on the 15==Davis 10x7 on 15 conversion
guess it boils down to what works best in the range "in the air" lots of variables on the MVVS 15 diesel 15/14 mm bore/stroke just a bit oversquare so not a classic design which are long stroke engines the only thing it shares with the classics is the contra in the bore not the head this would explain the smaller diameter props at least my thought martin |
RE: MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
here it is J-3 - mvvs 15D
well not yet |
RE: MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
When testing the DFSR engine (iron cylinder) I had following results:
8x4 MA prop on 4.5mm venturi and 16740rpm; on 3.7mm venturi 16100, on 3mm venturi 15300 9x4 MA on 3mm venturi 12400 rpm 9x5 MA on 3mm venturi 11500 rpm fuel is 20% oil, 40% ether, 20% Wynn's diesel+, 20% kerosine . Kerosene is Farmlight lampoil (paraffin C5-20, flame point <61°C). Good kero is critical. <!61>muffler used in test is MVVS #3241. This muffler is to be removed after running to prevent cylinder/piston corrosion. (unhook spring, detach muffler) The Wynns diesel+ stuff is mostly kerosene with 15% cetane enhancer. (Amsoil has the same stuff at 100%). It was mixed in at 20% to get 2% enhancer in the mixed fuel. Without it, the engine would hardly get over 12000 rpm using an 8x4 Using two drops of fuel in the venturi, I had first flip starts. |
RE: MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
THX Pe I guess the rpms being less is due to the prop choice and fuel mix. by the way same muffler used the engine ( at least one of them and mufflers came from you years back) too bad they are now dropped from production martin

RE: MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
I still have some in stock.
|
RE: MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
NOTE GROUP PE HAS A FEW ( I HAVE 3 SO OK) MARTIN
|
RE: MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
Pls don't get me wrong. I have parts, no complete engines.
|
RE: MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
hey Pe they need a kick in the rump for an other run of the engine martin
|
RE: MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
They even might! The last run was gone in two years.
I have parts, and can assemble a few using glow engine bottom ends. PITA though. |
RE: MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
Looks like Pe will go the last mile to supply . no rock tossing but things like this not likely to happen in the Far East martin
|
RE: MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
Many US suppliers walk that mile using Chinese engines and parts in gas engines. They all fall flat on their faces in doing so.
I put my trust in MVVS and Moki_motors, because they do try to help me out if they can. These firms are honest engine manufacturers. |
RE: MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
Pe sad but true here in the USA we have Fox, Davis, down under, Adelaide Aeromotive, and PAW in the UK rather short list=======martin
whooops forget one MPJet 061 flawless no surprise Czech made , I have 3 |
RE: MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
Short list maybe, but worthy of support, even if our western prices are a bit higher.
|
RE: MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
you get what you pay for, best quality is not the least expensive , buy one good one or two or three clunkers to replace it when the first one takes a dive thats not inexpensive
martin |
RE: MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
I'd gladly pay the higher price for an MVVS, Parra etc. than get a good deal on a chinese motor. Then again, my only experience with a Chinese diesel is the CS .061 R/C that a handful were made. I got one and tried to run it, the contra was so tight I ripped it out of my test stand trying to adjust it. No idea how they go it in there. My dad got one too and was so displeased with the quality of the cheese head screws that he just up and gave it to me without doing anything but opening the box to look at it. Dad's pretty proud of his engines and pretty tight with a buck so for him to just up and throw a perfectly good engine away says something!

RE: MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
I made the mistake of buying a CS061 also pure scrap metal the only thing salvaged was the RC carb pi***d away about $60 martin
|
RE: MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
Oehler if you every find your NOVO a very good engine martin
Hmmm maybe I got the name wrong |
RE: MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
Hello AMB:
Am I correct that the black oil in the exhaust was due to over compression? That is a great looking airplane! How well does it fly? Where did you find that spinner nut for your MVVS? Stay well. Franchi |
RE: MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
Franchi the black oil was likely the Davis ABC mix which is not really an issue if comp backed off it misses ,if we go the high oil content that MVVS states sure it would be lighter in color since all that oil carries heat away martin
I found the spinner in a local hobby shop a few years back or Pe Reivers |
RE: MVVS 15 diesel DFSR-RC
Not me. The standard engines have nut and washer.
I used to have speed spinners (quickie), that I modified for 2.5cc use. No more I'm afraid. Webra stuff will fit. |
