Fox .74 Glo.
Does this engine make a good diesel with a Davis head on it?
|
RE: Fox .74 Glo.
I do not have any experience with model diesels, per say. But, I've been doing a lot of research lately.
All I want to say is this........particularly with Mr. Davis. Be prepared to do this on your own and hope that all goes well. This is what I've learned after I have been "asking questions". Ob1n of RCU |
RE: Fox .74 Glo.
I have at least 25 diesels with DAVIS heads all the way up to a 1.08 OS . The foxs do fine I have a Fox 50 converted (ringed)
Research and results are 2 different animals all I know are the conversions that Davis makes work very well on all the listed Engines and have for the last 30+ years unless an engine is durable and proven you will not see a Davis head for it I do not feel a snide remark is a correct answer to the above question . this site is about every aspect of diesels and not personal feelings real or implied to ANY individual martin on research you might want to look up Peter Chins ( hope that is spelled right) review in 1977 on the Davis diesel conversions which was a huge addition to what was out there in the "Classic group" and yes have quite a few of them also |

RE: Fox .74 Glo.
Thank you for the encouraging info. What size model would a Fox .74 diesel fly. Weight , wing loading etc.,

RE: Fox .74 Glo.
KN. I have two Fox .74 conversions, they will turn a 12x8 three blade at 9,000 rpm and do so effortlessly. The .74s are very tough engines, there is no wear out to them. I have a ringed one and an ABC one, take your pick.

RE: Fox .74 Glo.
Hobbsy, there is no 74 ABC anymore, In fact not in years. Better hold on to that one.

RE: Fox .74 Glo.
My .74 is also an ABC engine?
|
RE: Fox .74 Glo.
KM if that is ?? ABC or ringed look in the exhaust port when you turn the crank as the piston just clears the port you should be able to see the ring just below the top of the piston martin

RE: Fox .74 Glo.
Dieseldan, thanks. I had the Fox in a Goldberg Extra 300, back in '94. Flew IMAC with it. Now into Big Gas engines and a 125 Saito in a Yak 54. Seems a shame to let the Fox sit idle.I have flown many diesels starting with a Mills 1.5 in 1947. My first RC model in 82 was powered by a PAW .19 (which I still have).I then went through two .45 ? PAWS. Using a starter on them eventually screws up the innards.I am glad to see that the diesel still has it's dedicated followers.I can smell them from here!
