Enya Conversion
Well, i think this might work but wanted to know if anyone had actually done it.
I have an older Enya 15 R/C glow engine (15-IV). From looking at the Enya site the only parts different in the glow and diesel are the piston, cyl liner and cyl head. Am I correct in assuming this is all I would need to make the conversion? thanks charlie |
RE: Enya Conversion
The Enya SS 15 BB diesel has a different head and carb from the glow (Super Sport) SS 15 engine. Maris Dislers did a review of this engine back in 2006 or earlier. Google his name and you can find his engine review of this diesel by Enya. Text, charts and photos in the engine review. Also some tips on increasing performance. I would guess the Enya 15-IV is an earlier design? Jack

ORIGINAL: portablevcb Well, i think this might work but wanted to know if anyone had actually done it. I have an older Enya 15 R/C glow engine (15-IV). Am I correct in assuming this is all I would need to make the conversion? thanks charlie I'd guess that the Enya 15-IV is a baffled motor with traditional Enya metallurgy and I know that the new Enya Diesel is a schnurle ported engine (AAC?) with a flat toped piston. I'd also guess that the new Enya 15 glow is the same, so the conversion is unlikely. The Maris Dislers review was in the "Australian Control Line News" which is available online at WWW.vicstunt.com (look under Newsletters, it's called ACLN for obvious reasons. It is possible to dieselise a baffled piston motor, but its a lot of trouble. See : http://modelenginenews.org/ for the september issue of Model Engine News, where the design of the OS 15D from the mid 50's is discussed in detail. It was a baffled piston diesel. Some fellow club members are running the new Enya 15D in speed limited control line diesel Goodyear Racing to good effect. With a larger venturi hole and a 7x5 prop they perform well. Good value too. regards Ray |
RE: Enya Conversion
Thanks Ray.
Yes, the Enya 15-IV is a baffled motor which is why the piston, liner and cyl head would have to be changed. The current parts list show that the diesel and glow engine share all the other parts, including the throttle assembly. But, I'm not sure that the 15-V and 15-IV are the same. I'll probably find a good home for the motor and buy a new diesel. charlie |
RE: Enya Conversion
The case of your baffled piston engine has as only one passage for feeding the one port of a baffled piston engine unlike a schnurle ported case which has three.
