Falcon 40 lift problem...

Hi,

I'm having a problem with insufficient lift with my Falcon 40. Its weird, it will work fine through a few batteries, then after a simple crash I can't get any lift - it hovers about 10 inches off the ground at max throttle. The last time it happened I had the heli on the shelf for about a week, pulled it back out to try it, and it worked great for a few flight, until a small crash, then it started happening again.

I am using 7.4v 15C 1000mah lipo's which are tested and working. Anyone have any ideas what could be going on here? Anyone had this problem and discovered a solution? I really hope it's not pointing towards a 3-in-one replacement since they are so expensive. Would a 11.1v lipo possibly fix the problem? The one issue is that there is some added weight with the training skids i am using, but this should not have any profound effect on lift with a fully charged lipo as far as i know. I'm at a loss here and it's driving me crazy! [:@] ANY advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :D

pb1592,
The Falcon 40 forum is found here. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4826535/key_/tm.htm Are you still using the OEM motor? The stock motor doesn't last long, so most flyers are replacing them with the Slo-Max 300 or Century motor. Also look for binding between your main gear and motor pinion. Hope this helps.

Well,

What are the sings of a bad motor versus bad 3-in-1? If a motor is bad wont it just plain not function, especially if the brushings are shot?

And could lack of sufficient lift be an indication of a bad 3-in-1? I know anything is theoretically possible here, i'm just what asking about what is most likey. I figure a blown out 3-in-1 would lead to no current at all being applied to the motor. Is it common to see 3-in-1's go bad where it cannot provide sufficient current to the main motor?

Lastsly, I have eight brand new 370 motors purchased for r/c trucks. Would these work as replacements in a Falcon 40? They are the identical size/shape of the stock motor that came in the heli.

Thanks!
