Starting Problems

ok so I bought an extreme/fortza exceed buggy nitro 1/10. Have not even finished breaking it in and had to replace the spur gear. Now when i get it started it will run like its at full throttle. Idle screw is fine. and the spur gear and other gear with the spur spin also. Can anyone tell me whats wrong with it?

take off the air filter and see how big the gap is when no controls are pressed, then with full throttle, then with full break. it should be about 1-2mm with no input, 100% at full throttle, and it shouldn't move from idle (no input) to full brake

well I have checked it while the buggy is not running and it all looks fine. I didnt think it would change. Can it be different while its not running to when it is?

RE: Starting Problems

did you check to make sure the throttle trim is not turned all the way? What I would do is:
1. set throttle trim to the middle which will give you adjustment both turning it left or right
2. turn on the buggy and controller.
3. if your throttle arm is not centered remove the screw and take off the arm and replace it so that it does not look as though it is NOT giving the buggy gas or the brake.
4. check the gap opening inside the carb.
5. when the brake is applied make sure that the gap does not change..what I do is apply the brakes and hold the brake and adjust my gap that way.

Hope this helps.

RE: Starting Problems

Do I want to have the carb in the middle, closed, or wide open after i set it. or do i want it to be at the idle speed. 1-2mm gap when the throttle trim is in the middle

RE: Starting Problems

At idle speed...you want the carb to have a 1-2mm gap when the throttle trim is in the middle. This will allow you to do fine tune adjustments when needed.

Thanks a ton. Been asking on other forums for a week and could get it to idle properly. Now another problem[&:] It doesn't seem to wanna move when I give it some throttle. Seems like it has a lot of resistance. full throttle just to get it to move some. Could this be my gear mesh with the diff. gears? Or just my clutch all together?

I messed with the slipper gear and now when it warms up the wheels feel like they are glued together... IDK whats going on with it. Seems like the fron right wheel is not turning with the other ones. will even stop while the other three continue to spin.

RE: Starting Problems

Lets check and make sure that all of the dog bones are not missing first. The dog bones that are connected to the wheels, you should only have small amount of play. What I and others have done is take some fuel line hose and cut pieces to place in the C cup to take up the excessive play. Again you will want just to have enought to barely wiggle it. If you place a piece of tube that is too thick this will cause the dog bone to lock and. Too much play will cause it to bind as well.

Make sure to check ALL the grub screws that lock the C cup on the drive shaft and transmission is tight. Having a loose grub would just spin on the shaft and not transfer the power from the engine to the wheels.

I got it tight. The gears are turning(spur and the other gear with it). just not getting power to the dog bones. It rolls just fine on its own if i push it.

RE: Starting Problems

Do this. Make sure that all of the tires are off the ground turn the drivehaft with your fingers. Do the wheels turn? You should be able to feel some reisitance since it has to go through the diff. I want to see if the diffs are good. If so then I would say the problem might be in the transmission.

RE: Starting Problems

well it did all start when I took the diffs apart to replace a spur gear. I can turn the diff gears freely while holding the wheels. is that normal? or do you want me to hold the bars?

rjsdad 03-22-2010 08:48 AM

RE: Starting Problems

If your holding the wheels and turning the diff and the wheels are not moving...there lies the problem. The diff is suppose to transfer the power from the transmission to the wheels just like a chain transfers the power to the back wheel when you peddle a bicycle.
