Default First "Fast" Plane Suggestions

I've been flying for a long time... have my 3d gassers, biplanes, foamy's, and micro's....

looking for something fast to play with this year.

Don't want to spend a fortune and am not out to set any records... but something fast. anything vintage... gee bee, p51 could be cool... or modern pylon racing type kits.

prob .60-.90 size... and prob won't run a tuned pipe... got yelled at for the last pipe I had on an old school super hots.

I want to go fast, and something that will keep me on my toes. what should I get? What kind of speeds can I expect? Never had one of my planes radared...

Depends on how fast you want to go.
For 60 size, I like the Little Toni, speed about 120.
For 40 size, Q-500 such as the Viper, speed about 120-140.
If you want to go faster, there are some options, but they start getting expensive too.

I have a quick plane I'd like to sell, Richard Verano Special F3D pylon racer with Nelson .40 FAI FIRE motor with or without nitro head. Digital servos built into the wings and good servos on elevator, rudder, and throttle kill. No throttle, this is a racer. Ready to fly except receiver and flight battery. Includes extra head shims, glow plugs, and carbon fiber props. Also include the special tank filler. Presently it has a nitro head in it but if you would rather have the FAI head I will instal it for the sale. This is an honest 200+ mph racer. Loud but very fast and a great price.

$700 plus all shipping costs.

More than one or two reasons. I have a lot of fast stuff and going 160-180 is my comfort zone. Doing it electric is so much easier. I no longre have a place to fly that has a nice wide runway and this thing hooks left when you let it go. The biggest reasons are it's just not user friendly and then there's the stress of flying it along with noise... I'm almost all electric now.

I want it to go to someone that will enjoy it. It's been sitting in my work room for a few years.

It is a good deal and the wing does come off so it shouldn't be too hard to ship...

i figured 75 ish... so 120-140 would be a good jump for me... just want to try something new

but dont' want to spend 700... i want to re-use a lot of the stuff that I already have and just look for a fast airframe to put it in.

120 is pretty easy with a Q-500 and a .25-.40 engine. Fairly cheap too.

Dave, You on your deathbed or something?[X(]

Repsol,
The Viper Q500 and a Thunder Tiger .40 is about as cheap a speed combo as you get. You can visit our site and look at the results to see what to expect with various airframe/engine/motor/battery/prop combinations.

Evan, I wondered if you still had that thing.

Post extactly the items that you want to re-use so we can make appropriate suggestions (servos, engine, radio).

Parkzone F27Q Stryker BNF is buyable for $215 N.I.B. if you keep your eyes open. Step up to 90 mph right out of the box.

Lanier Shrike is a great airframe for speed potential of 120-150 mph

Great Planes Viper ARF as mentioned is a good bang for your buck. 120 mph made easy.

Diamond Dust

Screamin Demon ( as shown with Nelson Q40...187mph in SLF )

And then there is this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MM3nL4KdEqA

Woweeee! Aside from the "demonic music" in the background the sound of this engine is straight from the "Speed Gods"

Just to let you know the GP Little Toni will not do 120 with a 60-95 size engine. and a 120 will be lucky to get 110. The fastest one ever was with a OS 91 DF engine and it only got to 150. you could put a YS 115 in it and get 130.

A real good option for you since you have flown 3d and want some speed will be the GP revolver. you can get the 46-55 size put a saito 125 or a OS 95 AX in it. You will have a plane that can do 120 fly sportsman IMAC with it. You will be able to hover it and even flat spin both up right and inverted. I had a 120AX in mine and it was 145 on GPS.
You can even get the bigger version which is a 70" wing and put a DLE 30 in it. run a 16x14 prop and will scoot along at 120 also but its a bigger plane and flies even better than the smaller revolver.

Don't get caught up in the premise that adding a bigger engine to an existing airframe will make you go faster.

Look at what this model is doing with a .40 cu/in engine.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MM3nL4KdEqA

The QSRA planes are giant scale and do require massive engines with massive HP but the engine must be matched to the airframe in unison and proportionately or you will gain nothing.

The Diamond Dust and Shrike are not being manufactured any more but they are out there if you look for them. That is why it is very important for us speed flyers to have a stash! Heck the whole Lanier line is gone now. I damn near cried when they closed up. The Lanier 'Predator II" ARF was a fine speed plane also.
