That should move it along quite well!

Now that's a bad-ass fast electric! Thanks for posting. The stuff I am talking about is just peppy sport by comparison, but that is the intention of course. Yours is hard-core.

This exact setup has been 245mph in a slightly larger airframe, im hoping to see 260 or so. If not, i may just run it hard till something goes, then get a custom wind done on the mini py

That's an impressive plane..! The thin tail boom can't have very much "whip" or flex to it or the plane would tend to be jumpy [I speculate]..?

The fuse is all carbon fiber, zero flex

I think you'll get it in the 260 range.

Off the shelf extreme speed just costs money now, as opposed to a few years ago. To go fast in the past, glow was the only option and a custom airframe. I was deep into the fast stuff beginning in the 80's. I currently fly an Enigma hotliner that resembles the X Plane except bigger. These things are very slick and easy to go fast. Mine weighs about 74 oz. w/ wing loading of a bit over 25 oz/ sq ft. It has a Neu 1512/ 1.5D/6.7 to 1 gearbox and swings a 18X22 GM folder, 5 cell 4200 Genesis battery, pushing 250 amps and 4000 watts. It can be launched flat footed and accelerates through 150 mph in about 3 seconds if held level and climbs vertical at about 120 mph from launch. The acceleration is just silly! Once flying you only need 2-3 second power burst (throttle on switch, crow on stick). Terminal dives (power off) are good for about 150+ and was radared at 172 mph from a level 2 second power burst. Power dives are not recommended as I fluttered the tail and was doing over 200 on pull out. That prop really unloads. The howl the prop makes when stalled is a bit startling but quiets down once doing over about 80-90. The scream the airframe makes as it cuts through the air is eerie and can be heard a long distance away. The slap of the prop when I switch off the throttle has gotten comments that I had broke something. My little Sunracer 1M pylon "only" does about 160 but seems like it is doing 300 due to its size. Again, if you want speed, without the mess and noise and goo, go electric. Beware, a 4.75x4.75 prop @ 30,000+ rpm makes a lot of noise. It is much easier but a bit more expensive. If you want to design, go glow or electric and have at it. I loved designing, but I have no time for it. My hotliner cost about $1600 and pylon types are much cheaper, but keep in mind that the smaller planes at those speeds disappear fast. I would MUCH rather
fly my hotliner than my pylon stuff any day.

This is only about 400watts in this Sunracer

One of the guys in my club has a couple of those hotliners, they make the wildest noise in flight. Despite the fact that you can buy a fast plane off the shelf I still want to build my own high speed airframe.

Here is my slow model:

It has a Neu 1105/1.5y and a 4.1x4.1 apc prop. Its making about 380watts and does around 145-150. Great fun as you can run full throttle for a full 2 minutes without anything getting hott.

Iron, I wished I had the time to design and build. I barely had time to "install" the components in mine, much less fly. I have a design that I nearly perfected in the 90's that I want to do electric. With glow it did break 200. With the monster power and and high pitch props available now, I am sure it could do 230+. You wanna build it for me?

Got my play fast electric done, perhaps I should call it a "brisk" electric. But several days of rain and severe winds and forecasts for more of the same. Blah.

EF-1 Shoestring, with BL32 (Habu) motor, 6x5.5 Graupner prop, 5s 2500. Tachs a hair under 29k, 1400 W input static. Makes an astonishing howl. There are better motor setups I am sure but I had this one dormant after nixing it on the SD. Hope there is a break in the darn weather soon.

I have heard that that is a good combo for that particular airframe, it should be very "entertaining".

The wing joiner concerns me. Hope I can find a CF substitute. I have one tube that is a bit smaller but still way more rigid than the Al joiner supplied. After folding an Al wing joiner on a little Funtana I get nervous about these wing joining schemes. Spent my modelling life building one piece wings.

If you can not find an adequate substitute you can always close each end of the AL tube with wood and fill it with expandable foam to stiffen it up a bit.

Flew it a couple of times today. I would say it is no more than a 120 mph machine, Moves along just fine, but as some here suspected may be the case, the conclusion was that it is a bit too much airframe for the prop. Next time out I'll try something along the lines of a 7-5.. if it picks up airspeed then that would clinch it.

Trying to match up the prop with an electric motor for a given airframe is a bit of work. I have had the same type of problem with my stingray, it did well with a 6 inch prop but thus far hasn't been able to get past 120 with a 5 inch prop. The best flight and speed was with a 6X5.5 apc with the 5 inch props I have had very high rpm turnning upwards of 27-28 k rpm but the airframe just has to much drag for the prop to even get the plane to 85% of prop pitch speed.

The prop still makes a fair bit of noise at full speed so guessing AoA is still pretty high. No big deal, it wasn't a huge project to fit the motor. I think it would do well in the nose of a 26" demon or an F5B model.

Pretty much the same results as my Stingray, lots of noise but no speed.

My Swist has the same set-up(Mini pyro and YEP 150. On 5s it dopplered at 201mph. Its an awesome two minutes of flying .LOL Next to try 6s.
Heres the video from the 201mph run. Its hard to see, but turn your volume way up.

You have to reverse the shaft, by loosening the set screws and carefully press it through towards the bell end of the motor.

Very nice! What prop are you running?

my X has been ready to fly for a month now, i am just waiting on some custom carbon fiber molded folder props to come in, hopefully i will have them by mid december.
