Default Whiplash w/ DF engine

we just installed the OS46VXDF on my whiplash today, we'll do time trials tomorrow, she should smoke. Total weight was 4 lbs 7 ounces with everything but fuel..
I'll break her in slowly but we were doing almost 20K on the ground running very rich..

I'll have pics and results tomorrow [>:]

By the way, we got a tuned pipe and prop adapter from Jet Hangar Hobbies.. you have to put a 1/4" spacer under the engine, but with a little grinding everything fit right in place.. the engine was almost all the way forward and we had to add an ounce to the tail to balance, but she balanced right at 2.5 inches from the leading edge of the radio compartment cover.

If you needs tips on installation, e mail me direct [&:]

Yeah yeah..I got a 46VXDF right here. Got you a prop nut did ya??

Little engines, little props, little notice.

Go big or go back and sit on da porch is my motto.

Just kidding, that little motor will do as well as them little Jett 50's!

I wonder if an OS91VXDF would fit with a motor mount extension? [:@]

BAGOSTIX,
I saw your post where you thought you were going 200 with a OS 46 VXDF and 9-7 Prop
Makes me wonder how fast Chuck Auger was going[sm=confused.gif] His modified Rossi 81 DF was turning a 9X9 faster than a 46VXDF will turn a 9X7[X(]

I'd bet he was doing well over 200 but the only way to know these speeds for sure is by radar gun or speed traps..
I fly turbines too and I know the speed that one of my turbines flies at, and the whiplash was visibly faster.

It flew like it was on rails, but warning, use high rates on launch and low rates in flight.. she gets really squirley if you fly with high rates.

I have approximately 3/16" on low and about 1/2" on high.. If you use high rates at launch you have much better control until it starts flying, then when you switch to low, you dont go all over the sky when flying..

nuttin but fun

Its been a while since I flew a whiplash and forgot how much fun it really is...

Hooked again now I have a need for speed... [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

Not to mention the Rossi .65 that was turning a 9X8 faster than the VXDF was turning a 9X7

Hang in there, Rick...We'll keep pestering ya until you go big [8D]

I got to get them motor mounts hooked back on and go again..I know Esten wants a little more data from this rig.

oooooops [:@] even ACM guys aren't immune to crashes, I put my RickLash in today at full throttle.. it hit so hard that it cartwheeled up in the air about 20 feet and came down in the middle of a highway.

I couldnt find the engine, but if I could have, all I had to do is epoxy the motor mount back to the break and go fly again ( providing the engine was in one piece ) the airframe was unscaved..

What a tough airframe.. too bad the engine ended up in the clubs bermuda triangle

Salmonbug,

Something like this?: [link=http://www.gerald-lehr.de/interex/pulso.wmv]http://www.gerald-lehr.de/interex/pulso.wmv[/link]
This one wasn't as fast as the turbine delta I saw though....

OK Chuck what do I put on the next one? by the way, we modified one mold by raising the motor mount up 1/4", its all one piece now, deepened the cut out at the leading edge of the tank trough, and put cutouts for needle valve. In essence setup the motor mount for rear carb, rear exhaust engines like the OS46VXDF.

I got good performance out of the DF but have a need for more speed,[>:] what do you have on your whip these days?

In the last incarnation, I was running a modified Rossi .81 fan engine. It had the exhaust duration set to 172 Deg, had the disk closing opened up just a tad. And it was modified to a disk engine, using a Rossi .65 rear housing, and it had a OS 8B carb with in-flight mixture control. Esten Spears did all the porting and fitted the disk rear housing, I put the 8B on it. We made it a disk so the carb would mount at 2 O Clock looking at the rear instead of dead center...makes it a lot easier to mount on the Whip.

Killer engine. Turned the APC 9X9 at almost the same static RPM as the Rossi .65 turned the 9X8 (mid 20K's for the 9X9, 21K on the 9X8).

Of course static RPM mean squat, I'm still being abused by Jett .50's and West V1's LOL Just ask 'em. [8D]

is not time to call Dubb and place an order?

After whip #1 was grounded and K&B 7.5 was distroyed. I ordered a Jett FIRE.50 and have not looked back. Not to diss your Rossi but i think the weight is the problem not its power.

turn and burn

Chuck was just teasing about the being abused comment.
