Anyone done one of these in EDF? The hump in the middle of the intake looks like the biggest challenge. Might just put an electric motor on the back, but would really like to make it an EDF. Looks like the hobbyking 4.5'' fan would fit well and produce 7-10 lbs of thrust on 12S.
I have one of these NIB that I am planning to do as an EDF someday. Systems have come a long way since these came out, but they still have such a good scale profile that I thought it would build into a very nice model. Never liked the nitro pusher plan for these.

I will do a build thread when the time comes.

If anyone has done this in edf please advise... If not I'm just gonna hang a brushless and a prop on the back

Go with the brushless and prop setup making it an edf is not worth the trouble. You will have a better flying plane and more speed as a pusher, I was running a MDS 68 on a pipe with an 11-7 APC pusher prop getting about 14,000 RPM.

Hi guys, did anyone covert this F-16N to EDF??.
What would be the most powerful EDF for speed and performance that could be used on this kit?.
I have a NIB YS 45 side exhaust but would like to try the EDF system!.

Thanks and I hope to hear feedback from you guys!.

Best reagrds.

GiMsAcE The Combat F-16 was solid foam front to back. It would be difficult to carve it out and still have enough structural integrity in the fuselage.

Hi Major thanks for the fast reply!.
I have never used a EDF before and it sounds interesting what you are mentioning!.
But I have seen videos of this kit converted to EDF but really don't know what was the outcome after a few flights on the electric system!.

Would like to hear if it has been done succesfuly!.

Hi guys. I just picked up a new unbuilt cbm F-16n. I am planning to do an edf conversion on it. I know this has been asked in the past, but since it has been a while I wanted to ask again if anyone has seen a good performing conversion done on this plane. Can anyone point me towards a build thread, article, or really ANY info on edf conversions for this plane? I have seen some mentioned, but haven't been able to find any direct link's to them. Also, my kit was also missing the video. I'm sure i can get along without it, but I would really like to watch it. Has anyone converted it to digital and put it online? If not, does anyone have a copy they would be willing to part with for a reasonable price?

Also, can anyone tell me what year this kit was originally released?

Thanks!

It was released in the late 80's to early 90's time frame. i had the F-15 version and was good for what it was. It flew best with a OS 32 on it as the both need lots of nose weight to balance right. The bigger the engine the more weight you need which means it doesnt fly that much faster and lands twice as fast. For EDF I would go with a Low power 80-90MM fan that is set up for thrust and not speed. This way you can keep it light. Stay around 1700 watts in power

Very cool! What fan is that? Do you have a build thread for it? I would love to see what you come up with. I haven't done anything to mine yet, other than tape it together and drool on it. Lol. Was thinking about going for a hand launch belly lander, since power/weight seems to be the biggest challenge, and it would also free up some room for the edf setup, and maybe more airflow. I would really prefer to have the landing gear, though. I like to stay as scale as possible. I have read that the intake on this plane might not be enough without cheat holes, but after looking at other F16 edf's it seems be proportionate.

I really need to sit down and read-up on edf's, I really don't know that much about them. Can anyone recommend a good thread/article that covers edf specific stuff?

I kinda ladded rough with the F-16 and messed up the alleron had to pull it off and got a new one from combat models a while back. What I need is the picture that shows how to bend the wire that goes in to the alleron and connects to the line inside the fuseLauge, sorry bout spelling, If some one could take a picture of it or copy it and send it to me I would really Really appreciate it. The last post here was in 2014 I hope some one sees this. Thanks great site for combat models fans I sure wish they would communicate with us more.
