What plane for a Jett 50?
Well, I asked what would be a good first speed plane a while back and ended up with a GP Viper. Flew it today for the first time. I was coming in for a landing and a wind gust slammed it into the ground. I could probably repair the fuse, but I cracked the wing and I do not want to spend $70 for a new wing. Now I have a Jett 50 looking for a home. What plane do I get? I really want speed. Would a Magnum do well with a Jett 50? How about a Whilpash or a scale prop-jet? Any suggestions welcomed and appreciated.

Joe,
I actually thought of that. But after doing some research, I saw a few places (including the manufacturer), that the Dust should get a 35-40 size engine.

What are the differences between the Diamond Dust and Whiplash? I know price and kit as compared to ARF, but are there any flight characteristics that differ?

RE: What plane for a Jett 50?
The DD vs Whip has been heavily covered... My main concern is the DD is built up stix, the Whip is composite and almost [X(] indestructible (Within reason-)
If you do not want nother quickee the others that will whoop with the Jett-50 are: Patriot, DC F-20, Weston Magnum, DD, Whip, even a 40 sized warbird! The good old Kaos moves pretty well-
Depends on you obviously, do you want wheels? Grass vs paved runway? Retracts, solo launch or do you have a buddy?
If you want pure speed on a budget then the Whip and Magnum are tops with the Whip being harder to destroy IMHO- The customer service at ACM (Whip's) is awesome and the product is awesome! I have Whip #2 with a K&B 7.5 DF that I have not flown but the first with a YS-45, Macs pipe, hauled the mail- and your Jett will be even quicker!
Cheers,
james

James,
I am actually leaning towards the Whiplash. After my original post, I did some searching and there is mostly positive about the Whiplash and Dust, but A LOT more on the Whiplash. Although the Dust is cheaper, it is, as you said, built up sticks. I fly from a grass field, so landings should not be an issue. Wheels are not a big deal. As for launching, I was thinking of making a launch stand I saw here on RCU.

I have seen them both and with Jett .50's. My personal opinion of the whiplash is it is a flying boat anchor. The DD with the Jett will be unbelievable.

I disagree with Cartman up there... My first launch with the YS powered Whip was smooth and un-eventful... Nothing against the DD but for $169- an all composite airframe, with carbon rods etc. you can't beat it- and you really have to dent the earth to destroy one!
Dunno about the launch stand, but the Jett has soo much power you could probably get pretty creative-

I take it your Jett is side exaust?
Whiplash X from ACM I am sure there are some instock
The new Magnums are comming but not here YET...
the first generation whip is a bit heavy I still have one JETT FIRE 50
then I bought whiplash X with JETT sport 50 it flew great but had a bad hinge
ACM replaced it and once itis painted the Jett FIRE 50 will make it scream.
as for the sport jett i will get a magnum for it
I have seen 2 bad landings with the DD and it will return to DUST.

Crazy4Flight - Yes, it is a side exhaust with a standard Jett muffler. I know a longer tuned pipe would probably be better, but I will lost likely use it the way it is. I am really leaning towards the Whiplash becasuse I have seen almost no negative comments about it while I have heard the Magnum drops FAST without power. Plus, I like the 100% positive I have heard about ACM service.

RE: What plane for a Jett 50?
Well, I decided on a Whiplash. How did you guys order yours? I would love to order one of the custom finishes, but I cannot justify the extra cash right now. I am leaning towards a base color and then either spray painting trim or using trim sheets. Any suggestions?

Order from their web-site...
I bought the cheapo primered edition ($169-) and shaker canned some rustoleum on there- mine is on the ACM web-site, one of the least creative paint jobs, but it was $5 bucks
Cheers!
