Default Got my F-20 yesterday

I know these are old news, just doing my part in case someone is looking at the Sportsman Aviation F-20. It looks impressive and the covering is flawless. All control rods are concealed inside the fuselage. Looking forward to building it tonight and tomorrow night. I will give a flight report this weekend.

I have an OS 46AX for it. I caught it on sale during Christmas (F20~$149). I will get back after building and flying.

That will be fast. It flies great and tracks very well with the CG in the right place. I shifted the CG several times to get it to not drop the nose in turns. The rudder is not a big factor now. With the 46AX, I was just barely keeping up with a local Predator that has a 46AX as well. It is pretty darn fast! I am putting together a semi-review and I will post it soon. Be sure to reinforce the bulkhead that the nose gear is attached to. This area is weak and will start cracking. Mine did the first day, and I fly off of a paved runway. It is weak due to the large gap for the nose wheel steering arm. I just threw some 30 min epoxy and alcohol in a cup and dipped a couple sheets of fiberglass in there and reinforced it that way. This is a definate need to if you are flying off grass. Anyway, enjoy . Oh, I also put some missles on the wing tips (more drag!), but they sure look cool on those low fly-bys! Top-flight armament package. Good luck!

Well it's done. Here are a couple pics. Won't see grass for awhile here in Ohio so it will be awhile before maiden flight. Jett 50 seems to be running good so it will probley be fast!

That looks fast sitting there. I installed those air whistles under the wings and it sounds cool. I am really enjoying this airplane! I have another one still in the box that I was planning on turning into a T-38, but I will never get to it. I will make a good deal if someone is wanting one.

Yep..... definately not going to see grass anytime soon. According to the weatherman, we got a bunch more snow coming this weekend.

Infact.......it snowing outside of my office right now! Friggin lake-effect stuff! arggggg.

Let me know when you may take it out for first flight. Maybe I will cruise on down for a look see

I considered it, but the nose wheel would be the issue. It would certainly be possible, would just need to move the fuel tank ahead of the nose gear bulkhead so the gear could fully retract. Your box will be shipped today.

I will get some pics up tomorrow. But to let you guys know what I think about the Sportsman Av... I think it will be a little smoother than the already smooth Kangke. The outline matches the DC model almost to a T. I like how the canopy comes off the get at the nose gear, I may change my mind after I need to repair it once. Also the throttle, rudder, and elevator servos are rearward of the wing, thus avoiding the aileron servo. That was a problem on the Kangke. It may get finished by next week not sure, I have a bunch of travelling to do.

Lear, Thanks Again. [sm=thumbup.gif]

Sportsman Aviation is gtting MUCH better with ARF quality... (There is glue in most of the joints right?) That F-20 is SHARP!

Kinda fat with the intakes but man I like her....Marilyn Monroe had kinda big intakes (hips) and that was alright

What set-up you gonna run Vic? How heavy are these things RTF?

I always hated that the aileron servo could get bound up with other stuff in the fuse...

I was watching Sky Captain.[X(]

James, I am going to run the same set-up I had in my Kangke. MVVS .45. You can see it in the foreground. I took the pics of the front gear to show the difficulty one would have in trying to squeeze a retract in there with the fuel tank taking up most of the space. You may also notice the tail cone and how similar the back end is to the DC. Looks like a nice combination of both.[sm=thumbup.gif]

I have the horiz and vert glued in place now and will glue hinges and control horns tonight.

Ok guys I have found a negative. While I'm not sure how Lear shoved a .50 in his, the cowel is short for my MVVS .45. If I use the supplied motor mount I end up sticking out a cool .25 past the front of the spiffy fg cowel. Any ideas?. I'm still assembling. Maybe I should cut back on the CC and Sky Cptn.... scratch that.[sm=bananahead.gif]

1/4 inch? Sounds better than most of my "fits"

How "long" is the MVVS?

With the mount supplied from firewall to prop flange looks to be around 3.8. The cowel is only 3.4, I know I said .25 but I have done a little surgury to the mount to get another .2 from the overall. I can put it in the mill and take the material off the backside of the mount but I don't think I can get everything I am looking for with that mod and possibly ruining the mount at the same time.[:'(][:@]

Vicman,

Is there room to install mounting "blocks" for the cowl? If you could do it this way, you could simply run the back edge of the cowl, to the front of the plane. (rather than overlapping it)

I don't know why they make some of these cowls so "short". Another option would be to recess the mount on the firewall and back up the existing, or make another. Either way, major surgery.
