MVVS 40 Clipped Wing Dust Radared at 115MPH.. Seems slow!!???
I had my MVVS 40 (standard), clipped wing dust radared at 115 MPH....seems kinda slow?
(I am familar with cosine error and had my helper try and shoot it dead straight on...but there might be up to a 10 MPH low reading due to angle)
Whaddya think?

I usually use video and timers to measure speed but I did use radar once on my Dust. The police were at the field and tried to radar three passes. He was unable to get it head on and each time my helpers estimated a 35*-45* angle when it locked on. The radar was consistent at 123 mph and considering "cosine error" I calculated about 135 mph. After refueling and checking the static rpm, it was 16,000 with a 9x8 APC. Way too rich on my Sport Jett for a speed check.

69, I come up with 123 by just doing the math. I think if you are serious about going faster you will try a 8x8 APC, get used to that, then go to a 7.2x8.6 APC pylon prop. My OS .32 turns the 8x8 and 7.2x8.6 at 18000 with a MACs' pipe.

I wouldn't expect much more from that combo... and actually, 16,300 on a 9x8 is a very nice number for a .40...(depends on what you are running for exhaust)
The DD gets by with smaller props. So what you can do is get a "Quickie 500" piston and liner set, and run cut down APC Q500 props or maybe even a QM40 prop... You WILL need a pipe though, to push the little MVVS up in the serious rpm band.
