WANTING MY FIRST DIAMOND DUST
Hello all ,
Im wanting to get a dust , I have a 25 fsr laying around , Im not looking for "burn my balls off speed" but something fast none the less . What about the clipped wing kit , does it fly different that the other ? Im thinking the clipped would make my combo a little bit faster . What kinda speeds could I expect with the 25 fsr ? Piped , and with a standard muff ? Anyways I could always add a jett 50 later
Thanks

RE: WANTING MY FIRST DIAMOND DUST
mercula,
I have had two dust and nothing has more WOW factor. The smallest engine I used was a 46 with a tuned muffler so I am not sure about your 25. I have heard the 32 sx workes well so the 25 fsr should be ok.
bobzilla,
10" is more prop then you need on the Dust. I usually ran a 9x8 but many ran even less diameter. Good luck on your maiden flight.

TheDD air frame doesn't care which engine is used. All that matters is all up weight, rpm and the right prop. My 2.5 pound DD with an APC 7.2x8.6 checked at 18000 flies the plane very well,[ with an OS .32 for a motivator]. The DD airframe really doesn't need any more than 8" of diameter to be easily launchable, and of course will net the greatest speed VS lugging useless prop diameter.

Ive also got a rossi 45 with a long pipe that sounds like it might be a better choice , Id rather not buy an engine .
What kind of weight and speed would I be looking at then ? Also clipped wing or standard ?

RE: WANTING MY FIRST DIAMOND DUST
My next Dust will be a clipped wing for less drag and weight but my standard Dust came out under 3 lbs with a Jett 50. The 25 fsr would not be a bad engine to start with. you can cut the engine mount out for the larger engine later. Speed claims are very controversial. Probably under 100 with a 25 and over 100 with the 45 rossi.

RE: WANTING MY FIRST DIAMOND DUST
mine screams with a thunder tiger pro 36 and a tuned pipe.. i would say to anyone getting into a dust, to use tons of expo, and keep the control thorws to what they are in the instructions when you first put it up.. that sucker can be a challenge, and i had jeff, (the guy that designed the plane) there with me for my first flights....
i feel the need, the need for speed,,
dust thy neighbor...!!

Hey, your spelling of D E M O L I S H E D looks more T R A S H E D than mine..hehehe
I started my second dust..this one will have the same enhancements, Rudders, tail wheel (ganged to the rudder servo, see my picture above), and landing
gear. I'm looking to move servos back a little and also relocate battery/rx to the rear most..as the plane was nose heavy..Rossi 53 is no lightweight.
Anyone else do landing gear??

RE: WANTING MY FIRST DIAMOND DUST
I just have one question , 'How did you guys know when you were ready to fly a plane with so much speed?'
I want one really bad, but I'm not sure if I can handle the speed...
PS wheels are a must for me...

Well, you don't start out with a really fast one... it's that simple.
If you put a .32 on a Dust and start with 9 or even 10 inch props, it's not going to be a rocket. Anyone that has enough common sense to judge his own abilities can handle a moderate Dust (it is a very nice flying plane if it's built straight). If you have problems telling left from right or controlling a simple aileron trainer, don't go for the Dust...
As you get used to the plane, work on the prop selection and exhaust to make the plane faster.
At any rate, it is not going to go faster than about 100 max on a stock muffled .32 (even with proper prop selection)... most people have no problem handling 100 mph (if they can control a plane decently).

The Dust will fly fast or slow but it is a touchy go where you point it plane. The low cost and quick build will make a short life span less painfull if it is about your skill level. A Q-500 has wheels and may be a good place to start.
