Default Patriot + 4 stroke?

Anyone has Patriot + 4 stroke? Which first ESP- 40 kit or XL kit? Any suggestions? I want to build XL + 70-90 FS engine :-)

Well the obvious question is why a 4 stroke? When you say ESP-40 I assume you are referring to the 40 sized kit...?

These planes really are designed to run on a 2 cycle but I am sure it (40 size) would fly on a 70 4 stroke- but not very well...

This is similar to strapping a turbine to a J-3 Cub [X(]

ITYM strapping a J-3 to a turbine

But you're right on the money. A 4 stroke is a lot of unnecessary weight in a plane that already builds heavy, and nose heavy at that. I can't think of many worse planes to put a 4 stroke on.

If you want something that goes relatively fast for a four stroke, choose an f3a plane or a T-6 Texan

The Patriot is suppoed to be like a jet. It needs a strong .45-.50 2 stroke zinging at 16,000+rpm in the air.

Look at it this way: a Sport Jett .50 will put out close to 2 hp.... to get that in four stroke power you will have to put a 1.20 on your Patriot...

Do you want a 1.20 four stroke on your Patriot?

just get a ys 1.10 that should suityou for your power. Think about it torque and power. and they are lightwieght for a fourstroke

It's just my opinion of course but considering putting any kind of four stroke/cycle power-plant on a prop jet--especially a Patriot--is just wrong. You just don't do it.

I agree 100%. I love only warbirds and propjets. I only use 4 strokes on warbirds for the realistic sound and high rev 2 cycles on propjets. Hell, I put the air whistles on propjets to get that high pitch sound. Why would one want to lose that high pitch sound of 2 cycle motors???[:-]
