WEST 50 running on when throttle shut
I have a west 50 v1 with tuned pipe on a magnum...its damned near impossible to land the thing without snapping the prop...3 so far in 3 landings...i have landed it very succesfully with os46 but when i put my west 50 in it kept snapping them...
It wasn't until yesterday when someone at the club said the engine was still running ...and i said it can't be cos the throttle trim was all the way back and had been shut off for a good 2-3 seconds before landing..and the throttle body is definetly fully closed
Any way it turns out that after running the engine at moderate revs and putting it to idle the engine will not cut even after about 9-10 seconds which means its hard to land.
The engine is relativley new around 10 flights so far and is setup perfectly no holding back when on song at all..
Any suggestions very welcome....and just pushed carb on to engine block again and tightened nut incase of air leak

Also check the plug, back plate for leaks, and gaps where the muffler meets the crankcase. I had the same problem and I over shot 4 landings before I realized the engine wasn't idling down enough to slow the plane .
good luck

They all seem to do that... the question has been asked several times here already. Mine does it too...
The only places I can see air entering is through the carb pinch bolt and/or the front bearing. The rear cover has a tight O-ring seal, I can't imagine that leaking. The same goes for the carb when pressed down tightly.
The perfect solution is to fly the tank dry: it will definitely stop when there's no fuel left...
I also found that the engine only stays running when the prop is "driven" by the speed of the plane. If you close the throttle completely, and then pull up vertically and let it stall, the engine quits.

Mine does the same.
I just leaned/richened the idle screw, so it runs fairly bad ad low throttle...... then it quits easier.
You fly at full trottle most of the time anyway dont you.

yeah full throtle baby....
found out why it wasn't cutting out..I rang weston uk and spoke to the bloke there, he said cos the carb barrel is so big, to allow for as much air as possible, when the bottom of barrel is closed the top reopens and the engine keeps on running.
Cheers
