RE: Patriot 40 with OS 65 LA
The LA or FX does not have a great deal of power. Power = money and speed I am afraid. You might try the latest bearing OS 60 and buy a Jett or Performance Specialities pipe, about $70. that will wake it up a little, about 1,000 rpm or so. You must buy a go fast motor to go fast. Be prepaired to spend some money for quality just like in cars. Try www.jettengilneering.com and look at their 60 and 90 sized motors, yea a 90 has been done and it is fast for a sport plane. Read the information in this forum, maby the Alley Cat thread or Little Tony. Gonna end up with a rear carb, rear exhaust motor system to get the power and rpm's you need. You wil get good knowledgable help here all the way Europe to Australia. Great bunch of guys, you are gonna have to spend some money here if you really have the speed bug. There are not many of us speed nuts out here, so not much of a market, so not much real good stuff available. You can rely on our German friends if you getg serious, thet seem to have the world speed records these days. This is a serious group of great guys also trying to get some high speed suff up. What they have in the hanger is likely faster than anythilng you have seen so far. If you really want to scoot, you need to find a airframe designed for speed, best way studdy and make your own. In checking, your going to find the OS VRDF fan engine that wilth turn in the 20-24,000 range, or go to the speed engines by Rossi and or OPS. Be sure to stay with their speed engines, not sport. There are some hop up artists out there also that can make these motors hum in the high 20K range. The OS 91VRDF will give you the most bang for the buck. You have to work at information gatherilng to get close to 200mph, or simply buy a formula 40 racing plane and a Jett or Nelson 40 racling engine. May be the most cost effectrive in the long run and you can take it out and test your flying skills. ENJOY/! Rever Brodtherhood # 119

This might be your best bet on the Patriot without spending the big bucks.
It will whoop most sport .60's.

What do you think about it?

If you have the engine and the plane...... it might be worth a try. Anything is better than it sitting in the box
The rossi noted above is a good deal. Worth considering.
My personal recommendation, if you do not have an engine yet, is the Thunder Tiger .46. Flys the plane well, allows the plane to balance properly...... and its very inexpensive. Add on a Jett-Stream or ultrathrust muffler to the engine later, and it will really respond nicely and add to the top end speed without any loss of reliability.

The Patriot 40 is not produced anymore but it is available on ebay alot and i think it's normally decently priced. It is a lot better than the 60 because it's smaller, weighs less, and you can still add a 60 engine to it. If you plan to build a Patriot i'd suggest the 40. Just watch who you buy from and you wont get ripped off, most guys are reasonable on ebay but not all!
But thats just my thoughts!

As noted, you can frequently find the Patriot 40 kits over on e bay and also here on the RCU marketplace. They show up from time to time. Sometimes you can find them at local swap meets.
If you want a good alternative with similar performance, the Juno RC F-20 is a real nice plane. www.junorc.com
Nice kit, builts well, flys smooth.

RE: Patriot 40 with OS 65 LA
My Patriot was equipped with a O.S. 46 SF ABC-P with a mac's tuned pipe. I question if the 60 will even fit up front, my 46 was packed in there pretty tight. This plane was as fast as any plane I've had. In fact this plane is still sitting in my garage, after 600 flights, I got bored with it. Excellent plane if you like to go fast!

Jett SJ-60LX and just use a good old 10x6 or a 9x9. Scarey performance and rpm.
(sames size as the Jett 46, OS 46 - no weight issues - in fact it tends to be lighter)

You are going to have a heck of a time putting a 60 in the nose of a 40 size Patriot. I have one now with a 40 in the nose. The 40 is a tight fit. Go for a hot 40 and you will save yourself problems.
