Default New Shrike

OK, i just got a shrike .40 and i want to take it easy and work my way into higher speeds slowly, so at first i am going to run a OS .40 la i have. My question is i know that engine is not the best in the world but is there any thing i can do to hop it up like a tuned pipe or do they even make stuff for that engine?

If you have not already read about the shrike here, do so. More important is to beef up the spars. There is a good thread in Sport Flying on the Shrike that will give you some ideas. I broke a 10 shrike with a 15 LA when I lived in Egypt. There have been similar reports of Shrike problems reported here.

wyatterp........Welcome to R/C Universe....[sm=thumbup.gif]

I don't have an OS 40LA, but the word I got was not to spend any
money trying to hop it up....rather put the money towards a faster engine
when the time comes.

Thanks a ton for the input, i kinda figured to put the money tward another engine, but hey whats the harm in asking. What about prop choices for this engine? That is until i have the money to upgrade.

Put a 9-7 Master Airscrew on it....it will suprise you.

Balance the prop if you can, if not....sand the flashing off the edges with some
fine sandpaper.

Wyatterp,

Welcome !! As you noted, never any harm in asking. But there is frequently harm (and expense) in not asking

Ditto to what Dave said.....

Just run it as is for now. Use a 9x6 or 9x7 on it, and enjoy the Shrike.

No need to throw $40-$70 at the engine on an exhaust system. Results will be ok, not remarkable, generally not worth the investment.
Save it for later.

not much you can do for a .40LA
1) pull the baffle out of the muffler 300 rpm gain
2) spend about 35.00 (YIKES) on a MACS muffler for it #5690 has a black finish yur 500-700 RPM and reduce weight ( tower part #MACG5692 page 240 2006 tower catalog) you may fine one used on RCU
