I don't remember where I found the picture of the first one...I think it's a scratchbuild. The other one I found in the jet forum... here's the thread: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4394897/tm.htm

Wow! [X(] I've been looking for my next big project. Bought the Bobcat XL plans and manual from BVM. Going to scale it down to a 90 size pusher prop.

Set up will be something like this

I've caught the speed bug. There is no hope for me now.

Thanks John,

No problem. May do a build thread, may not. Still kicking around the idea. Should start sometime in August.

If Mods makes a bigger one it could be fitted with a DF engine like a Byro (pusher) or other...

Bigger.......
That is my Achilles heel in modeling [:@]. My shop is super small. Actually, it's a 7' x 5' storage space. Can't build anything above a 0.90 size plane without serious space issues. Check out the pic.

That is small... Mine is a couple feet bigger but leaks pretty badly [X(]

Your skills and attention to detail are among the best I have seen on here- Kit one of these and make a couple dollars

Good luck Mods!

I found some information on the tomahawk elsewhere, if it'll help out. It sounds like a good addition to the speed forum...

Thanks, I was wondering if anyone was following that thread [sm=confused.gif]. Now that you mention it...if I can find a sub-contractor to manufacture the fiberglass parts without charging an arm and a leg....
I'm working on the plans now in Autocad and Compufoil. I'll start a thread once I make some progress (and finish my other project: [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4244427/mpage_5/key_/tm.htm]Highly Modified AKM SU-27[/link] ). Never can have too many projects .

Good luck Mods!

Thanks A Lot John! You must have super google or something. I scoured RC Groups, RCU, and RC Hangout for research material, but found nothing helpful [:@]. This is exactly what I was searching for [sm=thumbup.gif]

I know Dub prepared two engines for similar projects about a year ago, two different builders. One was a Roo, was going to have a SJ-90L on it, the other was a BVM Bobcat, being converted to prop with a FIRE 50.

Both engines were setup as reverse-rotation engines - allows the use of a standard tractor prop. Opens up a lot more possibilities in the prop department.

I never heard much of anything back on either project.

The ROO is heavy - And the Bobcat probably would not get off the ground with just a 50 [X(]

It has begun.....

Figure 1

Took a break form my other project (Highly Modified SU-27) and I'm happy to report that after a month of preliminary design, the pusher prop project has begun. It's still in the early CAD stages but I have the basic wing designed in Compufoil (figure 1) and exported the rib sketches to Soildworks 2005 (figure 2) to complete the final touches (landing gear, joiners, servos, etc).

Figure 2

Solidworks is a very powerful 3-D design program in which I can design everything down to the very last detail and once that is complete Solidworks can format all the parts in a laser cutter friendly format. It even can transform the 3-D design into 2-D drawings (for plans). I'll start a thread once I get a little further in the design process.

Specs

1. Power Plant: BSE Jett 95L Rear Exhaust (muffler routed through the fuse)
2. Weight: 8-9lbs
3. Wingspan: 50", fuse length: 60"
4. Spring Air 107 Retracts
5. 6 channels (standard four, retracts, and flaps)
6. Airfoil: NACA 0010 root to tip with 1 degree of washout
7. Balsa build-up wings with fiberglass fuse and twin booms
8. The engine will have a custom molded fiberglass cowl (trust me it'll work)

LOL! I have an idea of what the shipping was....was in Saudi for a while and tried to send something back to the states. I think I paid 3x the price of the item [X(]. My "break" from my last project will probably last about a month due to money getting short and me running out of things to do on it. All I have to do now is buy the engine and final sand the whole thing.

I'll kit this project once I get the bugs worked out and find a place that makes composite parts for an affordable price. I thought about making them myself but at breakneck speed I can only turn out about 5 fuselages a month. AK is very reliable and does great work for laser cutting so I'll probably have him do that.

Thanks,

Thanks, but I already know about those. For the price they are a steal but I am builder. In the event that a plane does not come in kit form, I feel compelled to make my own. Just crazy I guess .

I need your guidance, I'm so tempted to buy one of those Gas-Bobcat 50s, not a fan of ARFs but like you said..."for the Price, there a steal"
I'd be better to save my money and wait for yours right!!!???

Thanks. I'll take that as a compliment, but it really depends on how long you can wait. I'm guessing that it's going to be about 2-3 more months for the CAD stage and another month for testing (depending on weather). At the earliest, it will be January 2007 before the plane available to the public. The killer will the the fiberglass parts. If I manufacture them myself, the kit price can stay down. If I out-source, kit the price goes ballistic. Eventually I will produce the kit either way. I'd say buy the ARF and practice on it. I don't know your flying experience, but it's not a good idea to go up for the first time on a new airframe with your pride and joy . IMHO
