OS 32 SXH - speed plane
Hi guys ,
i am looking in to build a speed plane , and have a OS 32 SXH , that has hardly and time on it
that bein said it also has inproved timing from an AAC piston and liner sold by pspec
i know it is a heli engine, but would it be able to turn a prop if it has a thruxt washer, and what would be the best prop for speed on this engine
i want to get it to run at 19000 at least if possible
obviously i will need a side exhaust heade and tuned pipe for it
thanks for your input

RE: OS 32 SXH - speed plane
There is problem to use this engine in airplane application. I use a .32SX (airplane version). It's the same thing. Only the carburetor arm and the head cooling fine are different.
You can use it on any airplane that needs a .15 or .25. Example: Sig Wonder, Shrike, GP Combat Corsair or P51. The wonder, Shrike and P51 looks like a missile in the air with this engine. Fast, very fast. You can easily expect 110MPH and more.
I try many different prop on this engine. Most of time, I use 20% nitro and original muffler without the baffle. Your prop choice depends a lot on the airplane type and shape.
9X6 ~ 15 500 (GP P51 Combat)
8.5X7 ~ 15 900 (GP P51 Combat)
8X8 ~ 16 300 (Shrike 10)
8X7 ~ 17 050 (Shrike 10)
7X9 ~ 18 500 (Sig Wonder)
7X8 ~ 19 900 (Sig Wonder)

The heli version will not be a problem. That's what's in my shrike. I did change the head to the airplane version though.

i am just building my shrike , but i noticed that the crankshaft is short, how do you get a spinner, prop and thrust washer all on the short crankshaft of the OS 32 SX heli version??

I used a spinner nut, not sure how big you can get them but I think mine was around 1.5" dia. this way you don't need a backplate, washer, and nut. I could not find a spinner that fit right myself.

The short crankshaft threads don't make sense. I have counterbored the prop hub of an APC competition series prop without having it throw a blade. Otherwise, the prop hole would have to be enlarged so that a special adapter could be used to both clamp the prop and give the spinner bolt some female threads to attach to. APITA [:@]

RE: OS 32 SXH - speed plane
Hi,
I had one in Kange f3d plane. It is no longer made but there is an LR-1 which is smaller and really scoots sold at Wildhare Rc web site. My LR 1 was quite impressive with the os32 heli version/ TruTurn spinner and adapter/Macs Tuned pipe. With an 8-8 it was a lot of fun.....

what size spinner are you using,
the plans say 1 3/4" but the instructions say 2" and the plate they give in the kit is 2 " round
although it seams 2" is ok, the 1 3/4 would seem better and smaller
since this is a small plane ...........

Spinner??-- I'm at work. I will have to check to see what spinner. Don't know off hand.
