Well, there seems to be a lack of very good true speed planes. If you had a choice what would you want in a speed plane? Another delta, something new.....? Speak up here, your wish may come true!

I would like to see more propjets, similar to the F-20's that have been out before. But not the goofy looking jets that look like cartoons. But rather sporty jets like the BVM Bandit or other ARF turbine style jets, but converted for easy nose mounted engines in the .40-.90 range.

Are you talking ARF or kit? There may not be a plethora of speed planes out there, but there are some. Depends on what it takes to put it in the air. I like both kits and ARF's, but either way, I prefer jets.... the scaler the better. You have to watch your pricing, since some are very well priced ie- CErmark F16 w retracts. all for $395.

I would like to see a Formula One ship with a thin wing of about 500-600 sq inches for a 60-90 engine. This would be a true speed plane. Not the wide things we see with nearly 900 sq inches of wing area................

I'd like to see a good, strong ARF of something like the German guys are flying in their speed trials...
You know, the ones that look like over-sized control line speed models [X(]
Something in the .40-.50 size range...
About 10% wing...nice and thin...but with enough area so that it wouldn't have to land like a bullet.

Got some great ideas going on here guys! If I did something it would be all composite, live hinges.... high end stuff but as cheap as I could sell it and still be worth while. I have always loved the deltas and seems to be a shortage right now.... I also love the jets but hate the ones out there today as they just don't look like jets! One think I don't like about the jet thing is the engine that sticks out, kinda takes away from the jet look, jet designs also tend to be draggy if done more scale like which reduces the speed thing... wouldn't rule this idea out though!

Here is one of my deltas I did a few years back... some of you may have seen it here before. This one was just a fast job of foam/balsa/glass. If I did a delta it would be all molded, much nicer and cleaner....

Ok, delta then... The ACM people are "allegedly" reproducing the Whiplash with some changes.... I will believe it when I see it, and a couple other folks claimed to have composite Delta's almost ready to go but nothing....(I love the Whiplash and have one currently, but I would like to get another)
If I were in charge at these places, I would not speak/post until I had HARD info. about pricing and availability, otherwise we get all excited then nothing- I am disappointed with the product before it is even released simply by the way it is handled...
Was it Wildhare that had a composite Delta? I dunno but someone had pics, they had been to airshows doing demo's with them a few months ago and I have not heard word 1 since then- Poor marketing, even for a message board!
FLyhighhobbies: The GP Patriot has always been a huge hit, and is not even scale... Why not something along those "Sport-Jet" lines? Like setxw6 said, Bandit-like...
Scale is nice but I want pure speed! Like Angel's Rifle fitted with retracts.

Well lets just keep it as an idea thread and say (IF) someone were to do a delta, what would it be like? I do have a lot of designs I would like to do and there is a lot of good ideas here for projects. Basically it cost a lot of money to build tooling and buy material plus a lot of time. It is almost critical that you have a first succesful design so you can go on to others.

An ARF Mig similar to the excellant lasor cut AK model . Even in the ARC format , the plane is cool and with the correct engine 91 or larger it would be a fireball

IMO something like bobber's airplane, the "Barracuda" (with his permission of course ) would be better than a semi scale propjet...those fake intakes are just a drag man, like ya know?

How about a .50 size Barracuda?

How about one similar to these.....
My Buddy has one with the 60 FX up front, and flew it last weekend after he did a complete re-cover job. He said it flew awesome.
I'm going to stick either a Jett 50, or the newer Jett 60 uo front and let her rip. Mine, however, is still NIB. [&o]
These are only available in China now, which is where I ordered 2 from a couple years back. No distributor here in the US. At least not any more (many years ago)
I personally am not a big fan of the deltas. Maybe others feel the same (not all of you) and they simply aren't big sellers.
BTW.....I still have my Balsa USA Force 1 (the "Panty Bandit"), and gave away my Enforcer.

Nice stuff! Here is another ome of my old ones in the pic. I also did an A-4 looking prop jet a while ago but can't seem to find a pic of it now. There really does not seem to be much out there for real speed planes hey?

I almost forgot, I did start to design a kit way back for speed, it had T-38 looking wings with a nice clean fuse and V-tail.... I should dig those plans up!

I do LOVE the Bandit. I guess you could build a plane that looks good like the Bandit and still be fast but to be very fast you need something cleaner then a jet/sport jet type airframe. Something like my blue one there..... kinda looks like a jet but it is cleaner, not as clean as I could go with it but not bad. Seems like more people would want better looking then all out fast?

I'd rather have "all out fast"
Like I was sayin', something like the German speed record types would be "all out fast" [X(]
Only things I don't particularly care for about them though is the upright engine looks a little odd, and lack of landing gear.
I don't know how many of us would care to get THAT specialized (like they are ) but if you could work some sort of landing gear that wasn't goofy looking and an inverted engine into something like the speed record types???
Take that yellow one in the post above...
Turn the fuse. upside down, (sort of ) and make it a mid or low wing, and put L.G. (retracts would necessitate a low winger though I guess ) on it...
Whadddya think?
