How do i tune my mds 40 glow engine?
I have just stripped my mds 40 engine. Russian made.
I do not know too much about these engines. Altough i have just stripped and cleaned it and put it back together.
I want to know how to tune it so it runs well.
Looking at the carburettor
it has a screw with a spring coiled over it- What does this do?
It has a needle on the other side, how far does this get screwed in?
The srew within the cylinder, that is attached to the accelerator, What does this do?
Any advice will be much appreciated.
Thank you

RE: How do i tune my mds 40 glow engine?
I found one in my junk box, it's a little different but the pictures should help.
The first picture:
#1 is the highspeed needle valve. Screw it all the way in then back it out 2 1/2 turns.
#2 is the capture screw. Screw it all the way in, it holds the rotating barrel in the carb body, and makes it slide side to side, which is for the idle adjestment to work.
#3 is the fuel nipple, screw it all the way in, then put the fuel line to the fuel tank on it.
The second picture:
#1 is a set screw to hold the arm on, screw it in tight.
#2 is the idle adjustment, it way in there. Turn it all the way in, then back it out 2 turns.
I don't have the screw with the spring, it's not used much anymore, it was called a throttle stop screw. Take yours out and leave it out, it was used as a stop so the servo wouldn't drive the throttle all the way closed, this is now done with the end point adjustment or travel volume in your TX.
Start the engine, adjust the highspeed needle first until the engine's rpm peak, then back off from that a little. Let the engine idle for ten seconds and pop the throttle open, it it stumbles then runs good screw the idle screw in a little, keep doing turning the idle screw in 1/8th turn at a time then counting to ten then popping the throttle open do this until the engine just dies when you do it, then turn the needle out a little. The engine should be tuned now.
