Default Delta launcher

I designed and built this a couple years ago thought some of you might be interested in seeing it. I had planned on building another a little more refined but this works so well I haven't bothered. This launcher give flawless launches everytime, as I hope you can see in the pictures a pin goes in the bottom of the plane to hold it until released. I put the plane on the launcher and cock the launcher before starting once in the cradle you can do whatever you need to do just like it is on a bench it won't move until released. No I'm not selling them and there are no drawing just designed it as I was building it.

That is pretty slick. Looks like the landings might be a little tricky though.

on a more serious note, are those bungee cords extending to the front? It is hard to tell from the pics. Can I assume you used this to launch your Phenom? If this does not get em flying then I am not sure what well.

Hey Mike,

My Phenom flies just fine. So does Razor's. It almost sounds like you're implying that they don't fly at all...I wish I could say what went wrong with Chuck's Phenom; it just makes no sense when I have a measly .40FX on mine, Razor's using a .50 OS and Chuck was using a Jett .60 that it wouldn't fly. I know it can't be a weight thing. Mine weighs only 3-4 oz. less than Chuck's did. []

Not at all Dan. I am puzzled like many and would just like the answer so this could be put to rest.

No actually I didn't use the launcher I had a good friend tossing it to make sure I got a good enough toss with the weight of the Phenom since i had never launched anything that heavy from it. The bungees go to the handle which folds down in the front, there is a picture of it cocked which stretches out the bungees it give a real good shot. I launch all my deltas from it and I never get a bad launch. This is actually the third season of using it, took awhile the first season to get the bugs out but once perfected it has worked flawlessly since. Everybody that sees it is amazed how well it launches.

If anybody is interested in building one it is pretty simple and I will do my best to answer questions, but like I said I dont have any plans except in my head I could try and draw something up but I suck at drawing. I usually just get an idea and design as I go and adapt as needed.

The main piece that the launcher slides on is 1" X 1" X 6' aluminum. I just made a U shape out of 1/2" conduit which is bolted on the bottom, the legs are 3/4" conduit that just slip over the 1/2" I'm guessing about 30". I'm out on the road so cant give any measurements until I get home next week. The bungees are the heavy black rubber type I believe 31 inches. The only warning is when you cock it dont let the handle slip out of your hand as it will spring back. The handle just basically goes over center when it is cocked so it stays in place fine after it is fully cocked.

You need 5 lbs of tension per 1 lb. of model for a good launch. I would REALLY like to see more pictures in detail of this launcher. The best I've seen to date. PLEASE! I am building Mike's DEMON and have found from other deltas that you need a very strong arm to get a high speed model in the 4-5 pound range up to speed. This is what makes Mike's DEMON so appealing. It has a projected RTF weight of 3 lbs. Many guys are actually launching the DD, whip, and Phenom, tipped up on it's side at a 45 degree angle because of the effect of torque at launch. I believe this launcher will give the initial momentum and airspeed that is critical to help overcome the high torque at launch. MORE PICTURES PLEASE!!!!!!!

I have had several requests for more pictures and specs and will do my best to put some info and pictures together to post. I have been doing a total remodel on the house this summer so I havent had much free time things are starting to wind down now so hopefully within the next couple weeks I can get some dimensions and and such put together. Quite honestly I just built this thing in my head and tinkered with it until it worked so I have nothing written down.

Please forward pictures directly to the email I sent you. When you post pictures to this forum they are of low resolution and when you try to enlarge them for scrutiny details become blurred. SG
