Default Ultra Sport at 235kmp (143mph)

Hello guys

This time I want to share with you my ultra sport 40 , I building this beby 5 years ago and about 300 flights and it continues flying .
Four point rolls , slow rolls , snaps , knife pass , slow pass many others and the best of the best hi speed

This model 1991 is an Ultra Fun airplane , one of the best choice in a sport plane to me max. speed 235 kph (143mph)

Engine ............YS 45
Exhaust........... Tuned pipe 7.5 cc
Fuel................. Power Master 10%
Plug.................os R5
Prop.................10x7 PAC
RPM ................ 15,500

I only tach once with the first YS , this is the second YS but I suppose that turns at the same rpm than the first one (I finishes the first one )

Who of you have or had an beby like this ? any pic ? I love this airplane

Yessss Flyboy Dave , as much that I just order another one , just for in case

Maybe when I build the new one I'll reduce the wide of his wing to gain some speed , like zero-cool say , is some thick for hi speed .

zero-cool I agree with you , is one of the best sport planes

Btw 143 mph at least jejeje

Prop speed is only about 103 at that rpm. Was that at a straight down dive and tail wind? Not trying to crap in your sandwich just wondering how you did it.

SpeedBoy, I forgot to tell you that you did a great covering job on this bird, too!
It is still too wet and muddy around here to think about flying. So the good news about the fun that guys like you are having is making me more impatient to get out there.

How I did it .......? well my way is , first I get vertical , around 150 mts , then half roll , pull up , try to leave the airplane in the correct direction going towards to the ground aprox 45º , traying to no touch the sticks to no brake it until 3 mts before the ground , the speed is increased , pass in front of radar and there is . Of course tail wind , but I think no more than 10 mph of wind.

As a 103 prop speed at that rpm........... With all respect , I dont believe on a theory what say , "X" prop at "X" rpm will fly at "X" speed , there is many factors to consider to obtain the real number and maybe we do not have all . My other patriot with YS 45 too and 10x7 apc at the same rpm fly faster (244km/h) than my ultra sport , again with the same set-up only different airframe. And I'm sure if we put an 10x7 apc at 15,500 on a trainer the speed will change

Once again I do not believe this claim. a 10x7 @ 15.5K? I cannot see you hitting 143mph. Maybe you should have your gun "looked at".

I think you are a nice guy and I am not trying to ruin your day but seriously? 143 with an US? I think you should back away from the radar-gun for awhile---

15.5 on a 10x7 is not impressive for a YS-45, are you sure that is correct?

I just wondered if this could be possible too. When calculating pitch speed I only get 102 miles pr hour.
pitch of 7, times 15500 rpm divided by 1056 = speed in miles

It is possible that the speed gun is not well calibrated. It is the same gun that measured 190 miles/hour Patriot.

I like Patriots a lot, but i think it takes a bit "more effort and more $" to get close to the 200 miles/hour mark.

If it were that easy....

The pitch speed considering prop camber and unloading puts it over 140 mph. I suspect there is very little slippage when in a 45* dive.

The Patriot was 170 mph, not 190, and it was also in a steep dive.

Does this have anything to do with the time I got radared doing 90 mph on my way to Encinada in a VW Bug?
Now if SpeedBoy comes back a couple of weeks from now saying that he got a LazyBee up to 120 mph, then I will start to wonder.

IMHO the posted video says it all. I have never seen any other Pat go that fast anywhere anytime on RCU. And it looks 170 mph, it's a relatively 'big' bird.
It has already been said, the doppler measure for the Pat confirmed the radar measure, what more could you ask for ? The radar gun seems OK. That looks like thread jamming [sm=thumbs_down.gif].

SpeedBoy, we now need that 143 mph vid

The 15500 was measured on the ground. Does formula also adjust for the unloading the prop will do in the air? Also with him in a dive?

It is not strange to me that you not believe and really no problem

You dont believe my speed and is difficult to me believe your speed at only 120 mph with a patriot and jett 50 , you should to be above of that with that set-up .

If you think the radar are wrong then I want to ask you something WHY doppler was agree with it , when the video of my patriot ??? , the radar say 271km/h and doppler say 272km/h a difference of .62 mph , big coincidence !!!......... I dont think so .

As I said in the firts post of this tread I onle tach once the fisrt one YS on my Ultra Sport and I suppose this one (second one YS ) turns at the same rpm , I'll try tach this one and I'll say exactly how many rpm this engine have.

Like Mike Connor said , was 170 mph not 190 mph

To be honest I dont think the radar are bad calibrated , we are clocked many airplanes on the filed with this radar .

F-20 - YS 45 - tuned pipe - 10x7 apc - with retracts (kit)........................185 km/h
Patriot 40- YS 45 - tuned pipe - 10x7 apc with retracts (kit )...................217 km/h
Kougar 40- OS 46 AX - stock muffler- 10x7 apc - fixed gear (kit) .........162 km/h
Mustang 40 - surpas 90 - 12x9 apc - retracts (kit)...............................141 km/h
Avistar - os 46 ax - stock muffler - 10x7 apc - fixed gear (arf)...............96 km/h

And many others .

If the radar are grong why it does not mark more speed in that set-up ???

I've been thinking the whole time that SpeedBoy should be sponsored by YS, he is doing good advertising for them.

It is pretty hard to argue with Doppler readings that backup the radar, especially when it is done by a guy he has never met who lives 2000 miles away. Conspiracy? Only if we find out that both of these guys work for YS and Rossi [8D][8D].
