Default duellist with 2 55ax's

All,

I gave in to an urge, and ordered a duellist(they were on sale),and ordered a couple of 55ax's from tower(also on sale).Been playing with jets only for a while, but I wanted a screaming twin pattern ship, for that sweet sound.Almost called Dub for a pair of 60lx's,but less than 300 vs 1k for motors stopped me.

Point is,I read the threads in the engine section, and found a lot of good info, but I'd like to know your opinions on max speed set up.I'm leaning against a pipe setup, towards an ultrathrust, for simplicity.I really don't have a lot of time to be trying to tune 2 engines with pipe/prop combos.Bob says these motors should be propped for the 14k range, but the results I've read are varied. What prop do you think I should run, using either stock muffler/no baffle,or an ultrathrust.Planning on 20% nitro.I want her to be fast as possible, but I still need to be hooking up on the vertical stuff. Thanks in advance,

Erik

Dub has been doing a lot of work with his muffler and the OS .55AX. They really work on mine. The 11-6 seems to be a good prop. On my first 55, on the bench after a quick couple of tanks for the OS break-in, I tached 12,800 on the 11-6. I changed to the Jett and tached 14,500. Two 55s and two Jett mufflers ought to make your Duellist burn up the sky.

Ed,
I am a loyal Jett customer.Still running a 50 FIRE on my DD.I just think the red on the mufflers would look ugly with this airplane. That's the only reason I'm looking at the ultrathrust.I'm thinking 10x7.Who knows, maybe I'll go for a pipe setup.

Sound good your project but I really think that 20% nitro on those engines will be much , it seems that the 0.S. 55 preffer less than 20 nitro ( I probably wrong ) . Some friend who wants to go faster with this engine did test with 10 , 15 and 20 % and the best result was with 15% , he has a tuned pipe and 10x9 APC at 14,000 rpm.

Anyway you can test your own , see what happen and of course let us know how that go

Good luck !!

I can't wait to get the duellist 60,, that will be a nice home for my two Jett 90L's....shipping might be a bugger if it's an artf version, I'll just have to wait and see

Erik.....

Good to hear from you ! Exciting project there....

Use the 55AX .... great engines. Put the jett mufflers on them though ! REALLY makes the engine come alive. Prop selection for between 13,500 and 14,500 peak on the ground. 10x7, 10x8 and 11x6 work wonders.

Pete in the AKM F-16 thread has been running a master airscrew 11x7 with good results too.

The ultra-thrust is basically the same animal. If it fits the color scheme better.. go for it

Dub's gold LX mufflers look good with a few more color choices, but the LX version muffler is not what you want to use on the 55 engine.

Bob,
I was hoping you'd chime in.Good to hear from you.Hope you are well.Time is my most precious commodity these days, between family, and work obligations. If I can find time to get to the field,I'm usually picking the kero burners. That said, there's always a sweet spot in my heart for a good old school screaming 2 stroker. You know I love Jett products, but the red just will be butt ugly on this all yellow airplane, and I don't have the time to be messing with pipes. When I hit powerball,I'll set one up with 2 60lx's.In any case,I'm gonna start with 10x7's.

On another note,I was flying my DD with the 50 FIRE in it last week, and the sum***** shot the plug straight out of the head mid flight.I'll admit to running 30% heli fuel, when the motor has over 100 runs using 15%,but holy crap.Long story short,I gave a bud one of the motors from the twin dust from back in the day,and he's looking for it,so I can use the head in this one.Is there anything else I need to consider. If he doesn't find it,or any other issues,I'll just send the motor back to Dub for a little tlc. Thanks in advance, and stay well,

Erik

Shot out a plug in flight. It happens

You can get a replacement head button.

Just for goofs..... email Dub...
Ask him if he can make you the "standard" 55AX muffler, but have it anodized with the LX gold color.
That might look better with your yellow color scheme

(all depends on his stock level and what is in the order pipeline).

The LX muffler has to push over 17,000 rpm and we know you dont want to run the 55Ax up that high.

Nothing at all wrong with the UT same animal, same results. No pipe hassles.
