NEW ZOOMER/WITH JET 50
GOT A ZOMMER TOGETHER WITH A JET 50 PUT A 8.8X8.5 APC FULL BLADE @ 19200.
1/4 OFF TIPS @ 20,000 RPM ON THE BENCH. WILL FLY IT WED. ALSO PUT THE EXHAUST TIMEING UP TO 170 (165 STOCK) USING 15% NITRO.. SEEM TO HAVE GOOD RESPONSE.
ANYONE HAVE AN OPINION ON WHATS BETTER, SPOILERS OR FLAPRONS OR NOTHING FOR THE BEST LANDING SITUATION. THANK RICH B.

The ailerons are well away from the wing tips, you may get away with flaperons. Try it way up high, worse case, slow & cross wind to see if it snaps easy.

Had the identical setup except no grinding on the engine. (A crime punishable by death) except the 12% wing. No problems in landing except it takes a little longer than a Q-500 to slow down. Mine died by radio failure at flight 15 or so. I liked it. If concerned about landing speed, try flaporons first at altitude. Can always switch them out if you don't like how they work at altituude. Does not take much!!! ENJOY

WENT UP WED. A LITTLE HARD TO TRIM.. AFTER 4 FLIGHTS IS WAS FINE. HAD SOME HEAD WIND UP THE FIELD SO LANDING WERE SHORT. ON A CALM DAY MIGHT NEED FLAPRONS , OTHER THEN THAT IT EXCELLENT. LAST ONE I HAD WITH A 40 JETT DID 16O. THIS ONE IS NOT MUCH FASTER IF ANY. MAYBE MORE NITRO! TRYED SOME FULL PIPES ON THE BENCH. RPM IS ABOUT THE SAME AS THE JETT MUFFLER. I GUESS ILL HAVE TO TRIM SOME WING OFF..... OR ANY IDEAS OUT THERE ON A HOT PIPE , USING AND MAC 40-50 PIPE NOT MUCH DIFF. IVE TRY 30 % HELI FUEL NOT WORTH THE EFFORT , ONLY 500 RPM INCREASE. EXHAUST AT 170 MAYBE UP TO 175.????

I VE GOT THE WHEELS, GOOD IDEA DIDNT THINK IT WOULD BE A BIG IMPROVMENT.
WILL TRY IT THIS WEEKEND.. I DO HAVE A MARINE PIPE WITH BETTER ANGLES I KNOW THE RANGE WILL BE LESS MIGHT GIVE IT A TRY.

HOW TRUE IS THIS???? MY WEIGH IS 4.5 LBS. AND LESS AIRFOIL SHOULD I DUE 180 TO 190, 200????

Timing change is not going to help a great deal .... once you get to a point, airflow through the carb/crankshaft becomes the limiting factor on the engine. All a timing change is going to do is shift the torque curve a bit.
You noted an 8.8x8.5 approaching 20K rpm.... thats darn good in any book. I'd not expect much more.
You might want to try taking a 8.8x9.25 and clipping it down in diameter to 8.25" to get the rpm back.
In any case, it is very unlikely the aircraft is going to perform much over 160 mph.

In the case of the Rossi 53 powered Patriot I think the doppler speed measurements came up with basically the same info.
I only offer up information on my aircraft and a few others when I have confirmed in some fashion or someone has duplicated data. And from my own information I can sometimes offer estimates or projections for similar setups.
Keep in mind, full blown, current, competitive 428 Q-500 aircraft fly in the 170-175 range. QM40 tends to run around 185-190 now. Takes a great deal of attention to wing and airframe design, the right prop and a good load of power to get there.
