50 sx
Want to get this motor humping! Any suggestions???

RE: 50 sx
open up the carb to .330, raise the exhaust by .010 and put a angle on the exhaust port pointing at the plug, widen the exhaust at the top of the exhaust port by .020, radius the case under the carb and square off the crank under the carb, and the hardest part i to lower the sleeve in the case by .015 to lower the transfer ports. You want to get around .120 blowdown. Should run a 10x7APC at 16,000-16,500 with a Jett red muffler.

RE: 50 sx
Ya um not really sure what you just said was thinking of putting a tuned pipe on it what would be the go Jett / Macs ect...?

LOL

RE: 50 sx
I second that...hehe

RE: 50 sx
Note! Some of those had problems with bearing bore alignment in the case. This will quickly become evident if perfectly good bearings go south after about 20 total minuets of flight. If this is the case, take the engines apart and save only the screws.

RE: 50 sx
And as a reply to the original question:
The Jett mufflers are plug and play, and give a very nice boost (I don't have a 50SX though)...but i don't see a reason why they shouldn't work on the 50SX. Just prop the engine to run in the rpm band suggested by Jett. Don't use the black Macs "exhaust diverters"...they do nothing. A Macs tuned pipe however will give you a nice boost, and you can tune it for the rpm band your looking for. But it is not plug and play, and will need some tinkering to find the correct setup. Some info regarding your plane and your intentions with it are helpful here. |
RE: 50 sx
Get ready for bearing issues.

RE: 50 sx
I'm surprised to hear about OS having serious QC issues with something as basic as bearing bore placement. It seems like a problem that would be limited to a certain batch [like night shift stoners]. They ought to have piloted "go / no-go" gauges that make checking concentricity idiot proof.

RE: 50 sx
Yeah, me too...with the machinery they have these days...
Unless they're still producing engines on their old clunkers, but I find that hard to believe. |
RE: 50 sx
Cheers about the heads up on the bearing problems my sx has been ran in and is running nice no noise in bearings so im ready to up the power http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...wink_smile.gif

RE: 50 sx
Why is that? The motor runs lovely i have a 11/7 apc on it and it's doing 13,000 rpm and its runing on the rich side of things.

RE: 50 sx
Cheers Air raptor but im not that advaced as yet lol http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...wink_smile.gif

RE: 50 sx
Isn't the .50 SX got a ring? Are ringed engines optimal for high RPM?
|
RE: 50 sx
I used to have a Webra 32 "ABCD"... ABC construction with a Dykes ring.
Put a Jettstream muffler on it, that thing ran 8x7 and 8x8 props like you wouldn't believe. |
RE: 50 sx
Practical rpm are between 2000rpm to 20000 in the specs...
|
RE: 50 sx
some ringed engines can turn up the rpm. the 50 can do 18,00 on a prop with no issues. just do a good break in.

RE: 50 sx
Cheers Air Raptor she has been well run in ! :)
