Where are all the delta wings?

Hi all, I have been away for a number of years, I've been thinking about getting things rolling again. I've always loved my deltas, I notice it's hard to find kits now, what's out there these days? No more Diamond Dust?? :( I'm also shocked there are no good electric kits out there that I know of. I may have to get back in business and get some kits rolling! :)

aspeed 07-05-2015 02:42 PM

MJD is making the Screamin Demon. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/extr...-no-could.html is the thread.

Crazy4Flight 07-05-2015 04:36 PM

I have a DiamondDust 4 sale here on RCU.
Will list a ACM Whiplash when I get home.

Most manufactures will not make a kit in low volume.

Today most stuff produced is foamies and electric

Horn Dude 07-05-2015 05:19 PM

It took me a while, but I got some DD plans and rebuilt an old DD I had. Made a few copies. Stuck one in the vault. I can send out a copy if needed. But yes, I was like you. There was nothing to be found.

Could be interesting, I've never been a fan of the single fin, I really like the double fins in the middle of each wing half. Would be easy to change this kit. I have built a couple of my own design deltas this way and they have been rock solid.

Do you have a link to the DD?

corey-RCU 07-05-2015 06:29 PM

Would there be a market for deltas these days? I'm really thinking about making my deltas into kits. We really need some nice electrics too I think!

Here is a pic of one of my deltas I used to fly, so much fun!

I just build one, very nice kit and great instructions. It's rather big and slower then DD or SD, good first delta.

wnewbury 07-05-2015 09:48 PM

Bruce Tharpe will give you dimensions etc.to build different size Delta Vortex. I love my full size one.

I built a small foamboard delta from flitetest.com Flew well.

Sig still sells the wonder

They still make that one eh? It's a nice kit but I like the smaller performance stuff :)

How thick is the main root on this one?

Wonders are great fun. Easy to build. Easy to fly, had my nephew on the Buddy Box on a wonder with no R/C exp.

I built several with O.S. Engines from .15FP to .25FX and flew on a friend built with .32SX and kit bashed a twin with two OS.15FP

corey-RCU 07-06-2015 10:24 AM

Never flown one but I have built a couple different size Lanier Shrikes. Those were fun little things.

aspeed 07-06-2015 11:18 AM

I like my Wonder. Got a Fox .15 BB in it. The FP .15 it came with was way too tail heavy. I guess that is why I got such a deal on it. I had to extend the nose 3/4" and add two oz. The Fox was about that weight, so it was the candidate. Nice smooth, fairly fast flyer in the wind that we have here. I have been thinking of an LA .25, .40 or SX .32 that I have sitting in the drawer, but have to get a bit more stick time.

corey-RCU 07-06-2015 11:22 AM

I ran my deltas with a 32sx and MAC pipe, such a great combo.

aspeed 07-06-2015 11:32 AM

I have a couple of those pipes. Might be a plan. The one SX needs a bearing, and the top of the cylinder has a 1/16th" plating flake on it. Kind of afraid to splurge on the bearings. I think there is another one around as well as an earlier ringed one. I remember a guy in the old club had a .40 4 stroke in a Wonder. Didn't sound fast, but sure went by quick.

Hello Horn, Could you please tell me the CG on a Diamond Dust? Built it about 15yrs ago sold it and recently re acquired it. Its about ready to fly again but need to check cg. Thanks

OliverJacob 07-06-2015 07:21 PM

Yes, there is plenty of room in the fuselage. A turbine, edf or pulse jet would work...

BBailey711 07-07-2015 07:29 PM

I guess I look at it differently ... they are all over! I don't enjoy standing there just building a Kit, I am a Scratch Builder and there are plenty of Delta's out there. Also, they REALLY need Updating and Modification. On Outerzone look at Hustler XD-7 Delta, 363, and including Enforcer by Laddie Mikulasko at 48". He's a great builder and designer but that Delta needs some rework. Set your Search selector to 50 at the bottom, Search Deltas, and 49 will come up, screaming for attention.

I have a few. Not really a fan of plans. Just kind of engineering on the fly. Foam and coroplast are my friend lately. I guess most of these are really not done, or even started by me, so draw your own conclusions from that.
