No .40 power here guys....but it's gonna be fast all the same !! Little Norvel AME 061 should have it cooking right along !!! That's a 22 inch span on 225 sp in of wing at 12 oz !!

Been there done that, yes they scream!!!! 20.5" Norvell .061 hs55 servos, pulled the servos out to put in a sloper. Tiny Carbon prop screams!!!

I have a small delta called a "Chill Factor X", and an Norvell .061 engine for it.

The plane is very similar to the mini dust, so I am very interested to hear how this flies.

looks like it is going to be a little tail heavy...I had to move everything as far forward as possible....I want to covert the norvel to rear exaust and add a pipe....this little delta looks fast just sitting on the table...I can't wait to give it a try...anyone have pictures of their radio install ???? Also was wondering if the plane was tail heavy for you guys also....

Mine was tail heavy also.I flew it once like this, but never again.I was lucky to get it on the ground in one piece.Im running my with a venturi,had to fly with little control till it ran out of fuel.My radio set up is like yours excepted i have shorter batteries and i had to notch part of the motor mount out to get the batteries further ahead.If you have some micro carbon push rods i would use them, 256 wire is to heavy and its all towards the the tail.Regards Chris.

Those carbon fibre push-rods are going to be a must have !!! I'm thinking I will have to machine a little steel spinner nut to balence this thing off before it is over with......The good thing is that this is only Ver. 1.0.......I'll make a few changes on Ver 2.0 to cure this problem. Or perhaps if i think it can handle the extra weight I'm going to try a norvel 074 on the fron........Any guess at how fast this goes on the 061 ??? Also...how did you do your fuel tank ??? I had to solder up a small mint can to make a tank for it that was going to fit under the hatch but then I had to start moving everything forward and it is going to stick out now...darn it !!! Anyone know how to do a bladder tank ???

I custom make tanks for all my planes.If you look at the photo that shows the bottom of the Dust you can see i built a tub, everything sits lower in the fuse and i have something to hold onto for a easier launch.The other shot shows the canopy i built to cover the radio gear and gives me better areo dynamics.Chris.

Wow those are small. I knew they were smaller but couldnt tell until i seen your hand holding it. That gave reference on how small you guys made them things. Those are sweet looking planes!

Yeah they are pretty small !!! Ver. 2.0 will be a bit small yet because it will likely have clipped wings if this one proves to be a good flyer...I also like the tub bottem on Zeroman's mini-dust....Ver.2.0 will be a combo of smaller wing span with a longer length to help out on the tail-heavy issue and have a small narrow tub for fuel tank enclosure....Need to get #1 in the air first for some testing and I need to get to work on my rear exhaust norvel and pipe..

Yes they turn out tail heavy, I made a 300mA NiMh pack an jammed it in the nose against the fire wall, then a custom made .5oz metal tank between it and the spar. The servos are mounted in the ribs facing out and theres just enough room for a GWS micro reciver between them. All flights were excellent, very fast and faster roll than original. Better glide than original too. First flights were on a bladder but it was a pain so I made the tank. Tried a 16" but was too squirlley...

I've never built one, but it seems if you can get all your gear mounted at or ahead of the CG, there shouldn't be any problem. Since 80% of the covering material is behind the CG, switching to LITESPAN type covering would help alot. What are the twin fins made out of? Nothing heavier than 3/32" balsa I hope. In general, the choice of wood can make or break little stuff like this and sometimes the kit parts aren't useable for anything more than template material. I would hate to hang a heavy spinner off the front end, but Norvel does make something like that out of aluminum, and it comes with a grade 8 bolt.

What kind of servos are you guys using...I'm going with the HS81's and a hs55 on throttle.....I was scared to put the 55's on the elevators but you guys tried it already with good results I'm going to switch over.....here's some pics of the rear exhaust norvel conversion underway...
HEY COMBATPIGG....think that LITESPAN will hold up at high speed ??? I never have tried it before but would if it will make a difference...

I'm just getting back at it...should be flying very soon....just put in the carbon pushrods..a little hatch work and some monokote and we're off to the field..

It's not a kit...Just plans....All on one sheet..very simple...build and cover in a day...my next one will have hitec 55's instead of 81's...and wish i could find a small reciever where the plugs were on the side instead of coming out the top...

The Hitec "Super-Slim" receiver is quite small. 1-1/16 x 1-7/8 x 5/8" with connectors on the end.

Interesting that the engine will run without a bladder tank. The venturi's very large on AMEs (and smaller on a BigMig). On ours, we cut the 5x3 prop down to about 4 inches (you'll need to play with the diameter somewhat to get it right). I like the Sucrets tank.. British Combat fliers used to use Coleman's Mustard cans to make fuel tanks back in the 1970s.

This thing flys great !!!.....the prop needs to be cut for sure....the 5*3 does get a bit happier in dives but it sounds like the engine wants more RPM... but on only %10 nitro would could i expect..... moving up to 35 as soon as it comes in...
