Advice...15 size fast plane....
 

Hey guys,
I'm looking for a fast plane for ny RJL 15. I was thinking of a Shrike or Wonder, but was wondering what else is out there?

I would go for the Strike for a .15 engine. The Wonder needs about a .25 for speed.

I have this engine in a Wonder and it is a blast. There are racing planes built for .15 sized engines as well (check out the racing forum or the small plane forum)

This .15 puts out more power than most .25's.

Take a look at the Lanier Dominator 200. I have thought about putting a .15 on one. Somewhere I read that you should shorten nose because they build nose heavy.

If the power of your RJL does not rip it to pieces, I suspect it would an incredibly quick plane.

Checkout a "Wild Wiz" by Rick Haslam. I have one and it is a blast, and very well built. ou can put any 15 you want on it. I run a hornet 15 and run 35% nitro in it. Best windy day plane you could want.

If you buy a Sig wonder, I will tell you how to make it a bullet.
Build the wing but dont join it. Get the motor mountand measure the width. Place the wings together and mark off the mount and you are going to put the engine in the wing, and your not using the fuse at all. Make a bay on the back for the elevon servo. put the tank behind the engine and the throttle servo behind that. Make the bays deep enough to just leave out the control arm and secure. you can figure out the rest. 90+ mph with that rossi 45, make sure you ballance and center the thrust line.

Quick n' cheap.
 

I already posted this on another thread but...

If you are not limited to the 15 engine try the House of Balsa P-51 Mustang (the larger one) with an OS 32SX shoehorned into it and wings clipped by 1 rib per side... A cheap, agile and very fast plane that doesn't look too bad either. Verticals are totally out of site. Thrust to weight is about 1.3 or so if the engine is running right. (an APC 9x7 prop will turn at 14.5K in the air)

We clocked mine at 111mph. :D Stick all the hardware as far back as possible and make sure to use spruce wing spars with a healthy amount of glass at the joint.

My next one is getting an OS46 FX. Planning to mount it right in front of the wing with a shaft extension to preserve the sort scale look and not go overly nose heavy. :)

Hey AubeJ, you ought to go to Matney's Models (find it through any search engine) He has several 15 size quarter midget racing planes in semi kit form. I have seen them fly, and they are great.

I got a Quarter midget P51, clocked at 120mph (electric)

Try a Demon. Very fast with a piped .15 .
