Best Overall Prop-Jet?

What do you think?

Direct Conn. F-20 (ARC) $150

Cermark F-20(ARF) $ 200 (does this come with retracts??)

Cermark F-16(ARF) $200 (includes mech retracts..)

Or any other prop-jets you can think of (ARC/ARF)

Thanks for polling!
james :D

Razor,

Don't forget the GP F14. Really nice flying plane.

What...no Patriot ?

I liked my Dago Red the Best (RIP).
I ordered another one today.

The GP Patriot!! If you can't find a kit, get a set of used plans from a built kit...take them to a kit cutter and you will have the best prop jet flying...why GP stopped making this popular kit is anyones guess...

I am currently building a patriot kit... :D

I am taking pics of it as I go along and it a pretty fast building kit... It is the third day so far and I am already finished with one of the wing panels and the tail feathers..... Ill tell you its allot of sanding...

I got a question for you guys.....

If you build the plane by only following the manuel and don't add any carbon fibers and so on it can handle the stress, right? and If yes about what speeds do you think it could take?

Razor-RCU 08-01-2002 03:14 AM

oops!

I already have a Patriot! I guess I should have included that in the "Poll".

I meant in addition to the obvious No.1 choice (Patriot)

later,
james

Build the kit according to the instruction...aka. fiberglass the wing center section..it will be structurally sound....Mine were [powered by a Webra Speed 50, with a 9-9 APC prop, very light , but powerful..radared at 127 mph..great flyer, can be slowed to land very easily... think about omitting the fake air intakes, very fragile , and also increase drag....

Well I don't know about taking off the air intakes because i think they look nice and I am willing to pay the consequences. But, anyways after I finish building the plane I want to start of with a tower 46 that I have laying around some where and use that for the maiden flight (which is scheduled to be sometimes next month) and then use that until the end of the season so that I can get acquainted with her...

But I would like your opinion about a powerhouse... I have been thinking about a couple...

1. O.S. 46FX with tuned pipe
2. YS 46 with tuned pipe ( i don't know much about them but do you know)
3. tower .61 with tuned pipe

I only want to reach speeds of 100-125mph...

What do you think...

Razor-RCU 08-01-2002 11:13 PM

Hmmm..

Well, the YS 45 re/se would be # 1 in my book (Of those mentioned..)

The Tower 61 -I have never run

The OS 46FX, -great SPORT motor (My Irvine is more powerful than that..)

Those not mentioned, but not to be ignored...

Rossi 45- (there are a couple on ebay w/out pipes)

Webra speed 40 -(I have HEARD they kick a**)

Jett 50! If you have deep pockets..Can't beat Dub Jett's stuff...

These are the fastest I can think of..(DF, Nelson etc..not incl.)

You will eventually want to go faster, and faster. etc.. these engines will open it up for you.
When all else fails, get one of these and over-prop it, until you get used to it..

Speed has it's price....

OS .46 FX- I don't care what kind of pipe you put on it, all your gonna do is have to spend MORE money when it eventually blows up.

Rossi .45- Has this been tested enuff? IMO, these will have the same demise as the OS's due to their inability to like nitro.

Webra- Don't know a thing about them, and don't care to. Is this a "poor man's Jett?"

The "DUBB JETT" lineup- Now we're talkin', the BEST USA made/and backed, high performance motor....period! Run on 15% Powermaster with "standard" glow plugs. I know, I run'em.

Work some "overtime", as "speed" don't come cheap!

well its not that I want to be cheap its that I am 16 and really don't want to get into jett for a while (maybe in a year). I am already flying my ultra sport at 95mph and want to go faster, like 110-130mph. Ya know what I mean. So what setup do you think would be good so that I could reach these speeds...

Oh and does webra have a website or does anyone know a on-line dealer that sells them I want to get some info on them....

Razor,
Which is faster, the Patriot or the Mustang??

Since everyone thinks the Patriot is such a good flyer has anyone thought of doubling the size and putting a turbine in it?
Anyone gots a set of plans they'd part with....very cheep.

I believe Hanger 9 still sells the Webra Speed 50 ....the Patriot will be faster than a Mustang, with the same power plants, because of the cleaner profile...the Patriot was designed to be a fast prop jet...

I took a set of Patriot plans and blew thm up 20%..the fuse was 65in , retracts and a OS91FX...very fast and stable...weighed in at 7.75#s...had to vacuum bag a canopy from plug scaled from plans..built it like original plans, only change , used carbon fiber strips in wing spars, just for comfort probably did not need it...I don't know why GP stopped this kit, very popular...

Razor-RCU 08-03-2002 04:09 AM

Which is faster...?

Hmmm.... My Patriot with the .049 Black Widow (Cox) :D

I have a question for you guys...

I have been looking a the webra line and was wondering if you guys had any input on the 40 and 50 size... I was thinking of putting it in the patriot but i am not sure of the speeds it will reach and or the quality of the engine.. Can you guys help...

eugene 08-04-2002 11:00 PM

the speed 50 is a perfect engine for the Patriot..very light and powerful...with a 9-9 APC prop look for speeds in the 120-25 range...

if i build the wing only by the instructions and don't change or add anything the plane should be able to handle that kind of stress at speeds of 120-130mph in straight in level flight... Right...

But what about out of a dive?

eugene 08-05-2002 03:42 PM

Best Overall Prop-Jet?

there is no stress in the dive, just don't yank the stick on the pull out.. fly smooth on the pull out, this also reduces the chance of an accelerated stall., or control flutter if the installation is a little loose..seal all the controls...mine was radared at 140 in a dive, and will knife edge climb into the next zip code..this is a sharp, fun plane you will enjoy...

Ok!!!

Wait but does that mean no continues snap roles at full speed... Or short loops....

Im confused... This plane should have taken a stress test...

I think your barkin' up the wrong tree.....
The Patriot looks like a jet, smells like a jet, and flys like a jet.
( maybe it is a jet )

When you get a plane flyin' over 120 mph....the stresses on the air-frame increase a whole lot....if you want to do continuous snap-rolls at full speed, and real tight loops...get a stunt plane, and fly it at 70, 80 for the stunts. If you start flyin' a jet like a Fun-Fly 40....your'e askin' for trouble.

IMHO...if you want good speed (within your limits) get a Rossi .45 W/mini tuned pipe from Morris Hobbies for $138.95 ( I think ).
Forget buying an engine...then looking for a pipe to make it "run".

Good luck, and as always....

Well when I got into the patriot I was not really looking for a stunt flying plane and the speed is what really appealed to me but I was just wondering if I would have to cool it unlike on the ultrasport.....

Ya know what I mean....
