Sound R.E. 15-25 engine and source

I'm contemplating my own design sport/speed model and am looking for input on a good (and economical) rear exhaust engine in the .15-.25 size range. Not looking for the ultimate in high performance and price, just something solid that I can set up on a tuned pipe and rip around for kicks. [8D] As I progress I'll share some pics etc.

Hey there....welcome!

try this thread for starters
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/Engi...2255693/tm.htm

For RE, there are older K&B 3.5 engines out there..... some older OS 25 DF engines too. Sometimes can be had for a bargan. Very good engines.. both respond very well to pipes.

NovaRossi 09-20 is outstanding. Currently available

Irvine XR-15 is a real nice engine

Rossi use to have both .15 and .21 size engines - look around a bit.

Older Cox/K&B/Ron Young .15 engines are out there. Excellent power... use to use these for QM15 racing. Check around with the Free-Flight guys and some of the older pylon guys.

There are a few Nelson .15 engines still out there. Not throttle capable, but very powerful.

MVVS has a a few engines in the size range....they use to make a RE years ago...... not sure if its still available.

The Jett FIRE .25-35 engines are the top of the list in performance. $260 roughly... plus pipe. Can be tuned to exactly the rpm/prop you desire.

A few import engines available from SC and SY.

Check with the FF guys for excellent sources for any of these size engines....

I hope this is helpful

Bob

Bob... have you actually run this engine?

If so, under what circumstances? Pipe? Prop? Fuel?

Cox Conquest .15 or Nelson .15, just find yourself a good set of ear plugs :)

Do a little looking, and put out a wanted add. Quite a few of these are laying around in the old time pylon guys drawers looking for a home. They probably have a few special props for them also set for the right rpm.

The Nelson is an absolute screamer, but the cox is no slouch either.

RB...
I had the opportunity a few weeks ago. Apparently the new US distributor for the Nova engines is supplying them with the UltraThrust mufflers. Made for a nice combo. 10% Byron fuel........ tested with a 10x6 prop. Came up only about 3-400 rpm short of my SJ-50... very impressive. Only had a small amount of time with it. I believe Dub had an opportunity to play with one not long ago too.

The MVVS 15 can be changed from SE to RE by rotating the cyl. The R/C carb. is too restrictive look for a C/l ventura.
