speed for regular guys

What do you got that is easy to build and can scare the circle flyers with a .46fx? Standard servos and stuff regular guys got sitin' around the shop.

RE: speed for regular guys

G.P. Viper
Lanier Predator

Should be good for 110 mph with standard gear and the .46FX.

RE: speed for regular guys

As daven pointed out, the Q-500 planes are good for above average speed. You might also consider the Shrike 40 or for real wow/scare factor the Diamond Dust can't be beat. All will work great with a 46 FX and standard radio gear.

Another option would be the World MOdels Mustangs. We use to race them locally with the .46 FX, now I wouldn't call them "Extreme" speed, but they consistently ran about 90 mph with the gear up.

Nice planes.

Very fast build and lots of WOW factor and low total cost.

Easy to build but will take much longer the a Dust. Neat looking and fast

A little more money but it is an arf and it has landing gear.

You guys are great, I think i'll go with the dimond dust . In the photo on the DD site the plane looks to be about !/2 inch thick. Is that the way this is? How do you get receivers tank and servos inside?
Can you give me some more photos? Is there a good build thread?

Hey, just as a alternative, the Gremlin has turned out to be a blast to play with. Pretty fast and as durable as they can get. Ease of construction and a cheap price for the kit to boot. Can be built with a non computer radio and three servos.

I put a tuned pipe on a O.S. 40 and got unlimited vertical with amazing high speed passes. A little to close to the ground on a windy day put it into the dirt at max speed, the carcass came to rest 30 yards away from the point of impact and the motor over 75 yards. It was one of my best crashes to date! I have another kit on order and plan on building it as soon as I get it, best bang for the buck yet.

My web site listed below has several pictures and videos of both my DD's. Dust #2 section has more detailed pictures. No build threads but you shouldn't need one

Go to Ebay and do a search for the D.Dust there is a guy selling them for about 45 dollars I believe. Also IMO its better to build one rather than pay for one because when you crash you will know exactly how to put it back together. GL ;)

If you want a plane with wheels on it, the Viper or Sonic are great. These
will get you over 125 MPH easy....and are ARF's. ;)

No coroplastic in a Diamound Dust. Most of what you see is is MonoKote.

Flyboy Dave 06-13-2005 10:32 PM

RE: speed for regular guys

The white Viper is a thin foam wing, sheeted with balsa, and covered in
Mono-cote....strong, fairly light....and fast. A good "sport racer". ;)

RE: speed for regular guys

Here's a better description from the Great Planes Viper at Tower hobbies:

Wings: One-piece foam core with carbon fiber reinforcement, balsa
sheeting applied with epoxy for added security and stiffness,
recessed wing hold down bolts to minimize drag, center section
wrapped in double layer of fiberglass cloth.
Covering: Covered in Top Flite Monokote covering, color scheme is
entirely white.

The Shrike is my Favorite! This plane hauls Butt! Its Sleek and looks very cool and its amazing how easy and fast it is to build! I'm building three of them at once as of right now!.
Seeing the shrike come down in a straight steep dive and pulling out for a High speed pass .. Oh man! the chill bumps just came up!.

I love the Shrike!

Video of my Shrike.. Not very fast cause I had to cut the Nose cowl off which caused big time drag!

I'm just getting ready to put together my first speed plane....the weston magnum. Just got it today.....I'm impressed with the fit and finish of the arf. And for $100 you can't beat it.
I'm planning on starting with a SuperTigre .40 and when I want more power....I'll juice it with a Jett or something similar.

You got a Magnum for $100? Where?

RC-Captain 06-15-2005 12:55 AM

Now that plane is off the hook. I think I may pick up the tiger shark at the same time. Do you know the wing span on the magnum ? GL with your project. ;)

My Magnum only costed $10.00. :) Brand new.. Course I had to buy the Engine Combo to get it.. All in all it cost $365.00. I'm trying to finish my Shrikes before I start that project.

RE: speed for regular guys

Hey, the shipping cost is worth it as long as it arrives with out damage. I guess you couldn't convert the mm either , its 37.4475 inches. What nice little bird. How in the world will a .50 fit in this thing. Let us know how your build is going. Thanks. ;)

Fiend,

It fits just fine... no extra room, but no problems either. It fits even better after digging a foot deep hole in the ground with it... :D
