Fast? You bet!

A Patriot with a strong .46 will easily break the 100 mph barrier, much more so on dives. This is a plane that can be flown wide open all the time, with no fear of it coming apart in the air.

An Aresti isn't even in the same flying 'zone' as a Patriot. Two different types of planes for different purposes. The Patriot is not about wild aerobatics, but smooth jet-like flying at high speeds.

Our club had about 6 of these at one time. I had the ARF, and the others had the kits. They all ran Rossi .40's on pipes, I had and OS .46 on a pipe. The other guys did demos and such with them for a while ( a bit like the blue angels ) and they were routinely clocked at the jet rally at around 125 coming out of dives. Mine would stay right with them, except on the highest of verticals, where my OS would run out of steam a little before the Rossi. I also tried a Thunder Tiger in it, and it was the same. With 40% nitro, I could keep up with the Rossi's, no problem. But, 40% is hard on the engine bearings...

Admittedly, these aren't over-the-top screamers like the Whiplash. But at least these look like airplanes!!! :) (A personal thing of mine is that an airplane should have a tail. I'm funky that way :D ) And they have landing gear, as well. Please do go to the extra trouble to install retracts, it is well worth the extra complication and expense. The cheap Hobbico retracts work so well with this plane.

This is a fine flying airplane. I've got a NIB ARF (that I pick up today at the bus station from PA) and I'm ordering a kit or two from Tower as well. Got to keep a couple of these around from now on.... :)

P.S. Did I mention that I like the plane? :D

aresti vs patriot

I know the aresti and patriot are in 2 different "zones" of flying but just wanted to give some sort of reference since the aresti is
a light plane.
I have a set of b&d retracts(air) would these work.
ALso as anybody ever 3/4 oz fiberglassed the fuse?
dave
ps
I am very close to ordering one. i have the itch!!!

Got me a Jett90L ha ha hi hi

Ah, I just got me a Dub Jett 90L in a trade for a YS91AC. The YS came out of a WM P51 (.40 size), and the Jett 90L fits right in the same mount. The YS turned an apc11x12 11.3k static, the Jet90L should turn the same prop 15-17k. I am going to test the engine on the P-51 this weekend, hopefully it will stay together. I have not cut the cowl to match the Jett, since a YS will probably go back in it, and I'll get a Patriot kit for the Jett.

11x12 maybe 13000

If you look at the jett website the patriot with the 90L is running a modified 11x12 cut down to 9.75x12. Thats how he got the speed you are looking for.

Which Retracts work best? If I use Mechanicals do I need 2 retract servos?

phuffstatler 10-31-2002 01:31 AM

retracts

I used a cheap retract servo (hobbico, cirrus) on the mains, and a standard servo mounted in the fuselage just forward of those servos in the wing to run the front retract and a Y-harness tying them together. Works just fine...

With all of these servos and what-not going on, I did run a larger battery pack back there, a 1000mah, if memory serves. I'll be putting another 1000mah in this new one, too. I also put the CG at it's most rearward mark with that battery, and at that spot, if you pull too hard at speed, you can high speed stall the plane. I'ts actually neat to do if you don't totally lose it and splatter it...

For the guy putting in the Jett .90, I hope you like 50 mph landing speeds... :)

Get b&D air reatracts

I have 2 sets and they work awesome. The trycycle set is about 75 bucks. heck for the price of mechanicals(20.00)servo(25) Regular servo(11.00) having to upgrade the battery(better do this if you don't want to lose that brand new patriot because of a drained battery because the connections binded or something.
Get what i am saying

Patriot is back!!!

Where can I buy b&D air retracts?

DKjens 10-31-2002 04:06 AM

50mph landing speed

Eh, I don't mind that sitting at the controls of a Cessna. Can the ailerons on the patriot be split into inboard flaps and outboard ailerons, that might help create lift and lower the landing speed with a Jett90L.

Patriot is back!!!

Patriot build: I have built four over the years, all sold to other flyers.....very easy building kit, cant go wrong instruction book...all were in the 5.5# weight range....very smooth flyer, with no surprises....last three were powered with a Webra Speed 50, 9-9 APC ,and a Macs Mini-pipe.....it will run with any of the mentioned engines, except the Jett$$...radared at 127...build it straight, build it light, bolt on a Speed 50, and hang on.......

guntop 11-08-2002 01:59 AM

mine is here on monday

Spoke to the local hobby store. it is due in on monday

Mines are also on its way and to arrive next week AND a JETT50 as well.

I bought a second one for a back up or for kit bash.

I cant wait to get this up and running.

I m thinking of removing unecessay parts like turtle deck, intakes..Id really like to go fast. Retracts will stay.

ETA of first Flight is end of Dec. Expect a video & pics around that time.

It seems the USA will be crawling, or perhaps that is 'Blazing' with Patriots again! Won't that be a sight!

Got it right here on R/C Universe from a kind gentleman up in PA.

Sent me that kit, and a NIB set of wings, too.

Just in case I wanted to make a Patriot Bipe.... :D

Patriot is back!!!

Got mine today, didn't think Fed-Ex delivered on Sun. but there they were, sitting on my porch waiting for me when I got home from flying! Great surprise!!! This winter's project...Now to figure which engine to use. Annother guy in our club's got the arf w/a Webra .50 and it flys pretty good, nice balance, but not quite fast enough. Maybe a nice, relitively light .61 that turns up some R's...
