Finnaly, after waiting 3 wks for good weather. It went well. super fast even with the 9x7. Glide not as bad as i've read about, just keep the speed and all was good. The pipe came uncoupled and cut the first flight short, glad I was high enough. Plenty of power to pull away from gentle hand launch. I did add about 3/4 0z of lead to the wing tip to balance lateraly to counter that heavy pipe.

I have seen 3 of these here and help launch one on a regular basis. Very impressive but as fast as it goes, when that engine quits, its coming down fast. I never seen anythng like it. That plane was coming across the filed over 140mph and the engine quit and it dropped like a brick. Couldn't even bank it around to land. That actually made things worse. Just a heads up.

The guys is a very good pilot and whenever he cuts it too close, down it comes.

yeah. they do come down fast. I just make my low passes and then get back up high and kill it or wait for it to run dry. mine is preety light with 2 HS 225-mg and 1 HS 85 mg.

Try to get the cg at 150mm from LE, it should help ;)

Yeah, the Weston CG locations are very conservative and result in hot landings and all kinds of wasted energy in glide. But they are smooth at speed which is of course the intention.

Apparently some folks in Europe are flying at settings around 200mm. While that sounds radical, when I drew a wing layout to calculate 25% and 30% of MAC, and came up with a 188mm at 25%, and over 200mm at 30%. So, it seems there is room for experimentation in that regard.

This topic has surfaced several times, and quite a few folks who have tried it out recommend to move the CG back.

I've got the cg at 135 mm, and had to put the battery behind the wing bolt over the elevator pushrods to achieve this cg. My pack wont fit any further reward. Is it worth adding lead to the tail?

Haven't done so myself so can't comment on that. I don't actually know how the Euro fliers are geting their CG's so far back, but I can't help wondering if they haven't put the battery in behind or near the elevator servo. I guess if I was going to try tailweight I'd make back to back flights with and without, and work in moderate increments. i.e. I'd be asking myself what I like better, the higher wing loading and rearward CG or the way it was.

I glued 35 grams of lead under the tail of mine to get the CG back far enough... that was with the battery mounted as far rearward as possible. It was worth it.

Oh dear.. I guess his is one of the casualties. I've lost track of who's planted them and who's still in one piece...:)

Was this one of the crap hardware casualties, i.e. elevator letting go? There's been a few.

I'm going to fly the Mag again saturday. I'll try a couple flights with cg at 140-145 mm. I do hate to add lead. I already buried 3/4 0z in the port wing tip to balane latteraly. Not only is that pipe heavy but my wing was bad heavy on the pipe side when balanced off of the fuse. I had to do it. Click on my gallery icon for pic of my mag. Nope, rudeboy's Mag went due Tx/Rx failure... He's a quite experience fast flyer.

Jay, nice Mag but nice Fw190 too !! Is it an ARF ?? And which Jett on it ?

Strykaas, Yes its an arf. .40 size EZ arf with jett .60L. I flew them both again today. My son with the digital camera once again was still in bed whan I left for the field. Three more flights on the mag in strong winds. the last approach into strong wind came up short into the broom straw but the mag came out fine.
