I'm curious as to how diverse we speed freaks are in aquiring our dough!

Let me start by letting you know what I do.

I turn butt ugly concrete into whatever the owner thinks beautiful is.

I can make plain concrete look like marble, brick, stone, whatever your desire is as long as your check cashes[sm=wink.gif]

What do you guy's do for a living?

Well I work in the world of make believe....[:-]

I'm a Simulator Technician for Singapore Flying College, which is part of Singapore AIrlines. We have 2 Lear 45 sims that we look after,& the college also has 4 Lear 45's.

Here is some photos of a sim similar to ours, & me flying an A320 sim.

Dang, this is a tough question.

Currently I manage the purchasing department of a large publicly owned Catalog Printer, but not sure that is the career of my future. It pays the bills, but not always rewarding.

I'm a F-16 Flight Test Engineer with USAF. My job is to develope tests for different configurations to confirm handling qualities, flutter modes, and store limitations on the F-16. I also fly in the back seat as much as possible :D.

I had a ride in the F111 sim a couple of months ago, & was amazed how neutral that old girl flies, the '16 must be really nice;)

Lets see......

I went to school for aviation maintenence - got my A&P - did that on and off for a while.

Went to college for Aerospace Engineering.

End up getting specialized training in CAD, and some electronics background.

Worked for Combustion Engineering/ABB documenting and setting up power plant controls.

I then worked for Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Systems in Marietta GA. Worked on the F-22 program as a "Stuffologist" in the Airvehicle Configuration group. Got my hands and feet into a variety of things at that level. Later in the game I worked for Flight Test instrumentation, and helped get Raptor 1 and 2 ready for flight tests. I left the company shortly after first flight of Raptor 1. I also worked for a while in C-130J flight test.

These days I work for Nordson Corporation - UV Systems. Designing and producing high-output microwave energized UV curing lamps and systems for industrial use.

And of course I do some web design and assorted model product testing when possible.

If I get laid off again, my next job is either going to be an ice cream store owner, or a sharecropper.

Hmm..

Majored in music (trumpet, jazz and classical), and still play regularly but I don't attempt to make a living at it. Do a paying gig about once every week or two. Pay generally exceeds my bar tab, but not every time.

Been a "pyro" all my life, and have worked the last 20 years designing and building solid rocket motors, from large hobby stuff to commercial and military applications. Even worked at Estes (little model rockets) for a while. Hold the current Canadian amateur rocket altitude record, although it's not a spectacular figure - 44,000' [yeah they can go a lot higher]. The motor used is pictured here being static tested. Speaking of "speed freaks" the rocket cracked mach 1 just over one second into flight and peaked at mach 2.4. Luckily it wasn't R/C.. Also my work involves some formulating of other things pyrotechnical, plus some adhesives and coatings and the like.

Side gig is doing professional fireworks displays, though I've backed off that lately - too much schlepping for the money esp. when you pass the 40 mark which I did a while ago.

Built model airplanes all my life (well, starting at 6 or 7 yrs old at least, that counts). Based on my experience in other things I've done for a job, I think I would be smart to avoid any notions of working in the model aviation field, since , I would likely end up avoiding them like the plague after hours! They should remain as they are, a pleasant diversion from the toils of earning a living.

12. Retired with limited income, to lazy to do any engineering work for local developers
13. Currently working hard at being "That crazy old man" trying to become a super 3- D pilot and pylon racer. Crashing good rc stuff since 1968. Had a ball with Chip Hyde yesterday at our local fly in. Darn, his stuff flys so good. Outstanding person and pilot.

A few words about me :

1. first worked on the Dassault Rafale a/c, mission computer development for 2 years;
2. left the aeronautical field [&o] to work on the e-business (get more $$$ :D) for one year;
3.worked for an american company (Gen. Electric) for 3 years in the medical field (incredible hi tech imaging tools) to save fat people from cardiac diseases !! OMG
4.got back to the a/c field [8D] 2 years ago, I now work in the fighter a/c retrofit field (Dassault Mirages most of the time), which is very nice !! We've maidened a Mirage III a month ago, too bad I can't share the vids ... very cool to have hi tech avionics inside these old airframes :)

Junkie, very impressive work ! What is the advantage of fake concrete bricks over real bricks ? Cheaper ?

Glad to hear that many of us have a quite good aeronautical background !

wow some of you guys work in exciting fields..make me seem so ho hum..but here it goes

my first job was a 14 year career in transport starting as a dispatcher ending up as a state manager..but that wasn't a career that was a lifestyle..
hooked up with an employment agency for casual work over a 4 -5 year period I did...
1) press operator . stamping out kitchen sinks
2) spare parts/warehousing for Daimler Chrysler
3) pick and pack at a sunglasse/ optical importer..oakleys, raybans, arnetts, revo etc
4) started working in the plant I work now packing the product I now make as a reactor operator making emulsifiers for the food industry..except we can no longer compete with the Asian market hence I will only be employed by them till the end of June...

In between 2 and 3 above I tried to make some real money and applied all my efforts in learning finance investments and property investing ..unfortunately the people I worked for turned out to be less than ethical and were closed down by a government commisson who watches over these types of firms.. so two years wasted and a need to refinance..so much for making money..went back to agency work and did 3 and 4

now I'm desperately trying to figure out what I would like to do now
