Which to purchase - The MM, Minnow or Alley Cat???

The more I read, the more confusing it gets ... I want a plane style like one of these (MM, Minnow or Alley Cat), although I could use some opinions on the best all around plane. I will go with a 60 - 90 2 stroke or a Surpass II 91 ... too bad the Shoestring is gone, now I wish I had one. Appreciate any feedback.

I have had my MM for several years. Nice plane. If those were the 3 options I had, I'd go with whatever is cheaper. All three are very good planes.

I would go with the midget mustang. The alley cat is a pain to install a larger engine, but it is a bit faster. In the long run you will have more fun with the mm. The minnow or little toni would be my second option out of all of these.

Buddude 8 and Mustang Ace are giving you excellent advice. Alley Cat, Little Toni, Shoestring and similar are good sport flyers. They are not fast even with a Jett 90. Frontal area and fuse just toooooo fat to allow them to scoot. Alley Cat over Tony has small advantage in speed, we ran them heads up with same engine same cource at same time. Maby 10 mph advantage to the AC. If you want a good looking sports airframe, all will suit you well. They fly nice, land reasonably easy, just dogs as to speed, IMO. The Kyosho Kelly appears to be coming out with a advantages, a 55" Wing against the AC 63". Hope Kyosho narrows the fuse and keeps drag down. Remember, the Q-500 is a fun sport airframe that is fast!! No reason a scale formula can't be fast and fun at the same time. February is not that far away, hold your horses and wait for the Kelley, then let us know how well it does. I did not find the engine install in the AC to be a pain as the Dude did. Think he is just used to stuffing Jett 50's into F-3d's so he can terrorize poor old men who can not defend themselves anymore!! ENJOY

rmenke,

With that said, what do you think about the Wild Hare LR-1? A much smaller airframe, although not a problem for me. All this comparison hurts my head, makes me just want to get a Viper 500!

Iwouild like to but it's about a the size of a small .40 size P-51. If it were a tad bigger, Id go for it.

you ought to see the AC carve a 180 degree knife edge turn. i'm still chicken to see how far it will get to make a 360 knife edge..... amazing how such a small rudder gains authority at 135mph.

RE: Which to purchase - The MM, Minnow or Alley Cat???

the kelly looks like a real fast plane with the right engine.

will any of you guys be building one?

hay mr. menke, i will be up in fresno dec 22-28'th. ya still have your AC?

i still have mine with the ys110 in it. the engine still runs good but has a problem on the low end (that i have been living with). i probably have around 150 or so flights on the AC. as soon as i finish my bearcat, i'll probably retire the AC for awhile, pull the engine, and overhaul it's o-rings - as i think there may be a small air leak somewhere (somewhere somewhere) which makes the low end lean and the engine quits when i land (no big deal - and i have the low end mixture turned all the way rich as far as it will go)
