I am curious what people will say when they install the thing and find out that the aircraft they have been claiming goes 150 MPH is really going 120.

The speed claims posted in these RC forums tend to be VERY optimistic. And when challenged, people usually respond 'It was clocked with Radar'. If it was, it had a 30 MPH tailwind. When you find out the prop and RPM, you know the airspeed claimed is impossible.

I have a hunch that people will say the device is inaccurate.;)

LOL I agree with you PJ. I was pretty suprised at how I only picked up 35 mph diffrence form my F-20 to a Predator. It really demonstrates how drag affects speed.
I remember how diffrent 140 to 150 was on a skooter.[X(]

PJ- Pretty arrogant post. Keep in mind many of us do not know or care how fast these are or aren't....it is also worth noting that I can declare these devices are inaccurate if I damn well feel like it.

I was seriously thinking of picking one up to bring out to the next no-show and put your slow *%$ in check [8D]

Way cool!

Now can they link it to a read out in real time, on your radio or glasses(HUD) ?

I would love to have an airspeed indicator for landing warbirds.

No real time readouts with this unit. After you land it flashes out your maximum speed on LED's. I have read a few reviews that were positive.

That is cool, and the price is right if you want a method for seeing what Vmax is for a given design. If only for reference, or when you try changes to see what the effect is...

Wrap in in a steel box. Now it is a FDR (Black Box) and if it survives the impact you will know what your terminal speed was. :D

For many of us here, speed claims mean nothing, they are just guesstimates, unless it is backed up with air data, doppler sound measurement, or radar speed measurement.

So when someone "says" they get 150 mph..... you will notice that those of us who understand what that sort of performance requries may question the statement and request some hard data ...... or simply take it for what it is worth.

This new little air data recorder looks nice. May be something worth investing in, and it is not that expensive.

The eagle tree system was pretty good. Good data, and the newer systems provide real-time flight data.

RE: How fast does it fly?

I wonder if there is a way to re-set it in flight ? Id imagine not since it could not set a reference pressure on both sides.

If it only records and remembers max speed, it would tend to pick up transients from turns and dives. I guess that is ok, most of us like those screaming dive speeds anyway :) but it would be handy to evaluate level flight speed too.

Edit..... it helps to read the instructions..... apparently you can set it up to capture data on command using a transmitter switch. Nice.
