sonic 500 kit question

I'm just starting to build a sonic 500 and was after some input.

They supply a few pieces balsa to taper the wing tips. I was going to just leave them off and have squared end tip like an aerobatic plane one of reasons is I want the plane small as possible to fit in the boot (truck) of the car and I like the square ends

Can anyone see a problem?? or has done this??

I have used square wing tips on a quickee with no adverse affects.

Not a problem. Go ahead and leave them off.

I'm still flying a 3 year old Sonic with at least 100 flights on it. Great flying plane that has actually won a few races.

good luck.

Thanks Daven,

wouldn't think it would be a problem, on the same subject what speed do you think I would get out of it with a Thunder tiger 46 spinning a 10/7 APC prop with standard muffer??

I would actually try a different prop. We routinely run these types of planes with the O.S. .46fx and a 10x7 is just a little too much prop. You want them to turn up a little more if your looking for speed.

We have found the following props to work best on .46 sized engines in this class:

APC 9 1/2" x 7 1/2 N
APC 9x7 Sport
APC 8.75 8.75 W
APC 8.8 x 8.5

Speeds should be between 110 - 120 mph on the course.

Good luck.

I will keep that in mind, But I was and this might sound stupid planning on hand lanching the plane.
I have a large field out the front of the house. To rough to take off from but not to bad if you do a nice slow stall landing in the long grass.

Here's a pic from the front yard.......

maybe I should get an electric

No problem I'm running a 46FX and a APC9x7 prop and it will take off with a gentle throw, then pull up vertical and roll untill you have had enough then dive like a mad man. Repeat untill deadstick.
Have lots of fun.
