what's the biggest fastest motor i can put on this thing, i can't afford the nelson or jetts or anything of that sort, right now i'm ready to put on the 46fx, but is there anything faster? 61fx maybe? i'm not racing anyone, just my own enjoyment!

I do not have this plane but I'll give it a shot anyhow...

You want RPM's so 40-53 would be best, adding a 61 would only make it heavier and give less rpm's (61-FX?)

The 46FX will work well, and I know you dont wanna break the bank but look for a used motor like a Webra-50, YS-45 or Rossi 45- those revvv and can make a huge difference-

When all else fails do a search for " Predator" or "best 45 sized engine"

Razor is right about the 61. Bigger does not mean faster on that type of plane. A OS 46 FX will pull it around at a very respectable speed. Those type of planes will fly pretty much faster than most other planes with a hot engine.

I used to have a Scat Cat (similar) a while back and it was quick even with a basic OS 40 FP. And that is compared to a 40 LA. It is just the way the plane is designed it is just naturally quick.

There is no need to buy a new motor. Just buy a Performance Specialties pipe for your 46fx ($65?). Try an APC 9x7 or 9x8 or some pylon props, and let it rev 16 to 17k. That Predator will scoot.

hey also go with the wooden pylon props from rev up. i think it is called. i found that they have instant revs and really haul in air with a sport 46 FX.

....but when it's time to bust out the Quickie Planes....

....it's time to leave the Magnum's, the O.S.'s, and the
T.T. sport .46's in the sport planes....and make the small
leap into the performance motors....the Rossi .45 is
a good interim start....

Cheif Aircraft used to sell the long piped Rossi .45's
for $150.00....trust me on this....add a $2.50 prop, and
5% Powermaster....in any Q-500 plane....and your gonna
have to wear kneepads.... :eek:

....the "Sporties" ain't gonna cut the mustard.... :p

I understand what you are saying. I own a Rossi 45 and Jett 50 myself. But if you don't want to invest in a Jett or funds are limited, the Performance Specialties pipe is an excellent investment, and so easy to use. The OS, TT, Magnum, etc. sport motors really wake up on a pipe. Not only will they cut the mustard, they will spread it on the bun.

The truth of the matter is....I fly at about 3500 feet,
and it seems right about here is where the "Sporties"
start to struggle....the S.T.'s and Rossi's don't seem
to be effected as much....maybe because they are
Italian.... :D

Their Web is down right now....I wanted to see if they
had one for the Rossi .61's....now that would put some
mustard on the ol' hot dog.... :D

For a cheap quick fix for your quickie, try a Mac's tuned muffler. I have my Predator set up with the 46Fx, Mac's muffler, and Master Airscrew 9X8. [ I know, their are better props, but our paved runway eats APCs for lunch.]
In fact, I'm thinking about clipping off about 4 to 5 inches off of each wingtip, and using a 32sx with a Mac's . This is a hot little 'sport' motor, and the reduced weight and wing area should make this as quick as the 46fx......Any thoughts guys???
[I'm just using this plane for fun, not racing so am not concerned about not meeting quickie regs.]

Are those Mac's mufflers tuned? I know the Ultra Thrusts and Red Jetts (Dub makes them to fit the OS bolt pattern) are tuned (with a mini-pipe inside). I saw a 32sx with an Ultrathrust, and it was a screamer. However, I am not sure it will it turn enough lumber to keep up with a piped 46 on a Predator.

The Macs muffler is NOT tuned , nor does Mac claim it to be tuned . It s simply a rugged and cheap replacement for the stock units that tend to fall apart. I have personally seen a 100 to 200 RPM LOSS with the Macs muffler.

I'm building a predator 500 ARF. The manual shows the throttle servo laying on it's side in the bottom of the fuse. It doesn't say how to install it or what to screw it to. Any suggestions.

Double sided foam tape, epoxy, or if you're in a good mood and willing to put some work into it, use some aluminum "L" shaped pieces...

Don't forget to seal the wood with something before you use double sided tape... it tends to stick a whole lot better on sealed wood...

I read all the options presented thus far to your original question and think I have one that will mow down everything presented thus far for the same or less money.

Hopefully attached (1st attempt at photo attachment on RCU) is a Scat Cat with K&B 7.5 DF engine. I last flew this airplane in 1984. It turns the Rev-Up Pylon Prop 20,000 on the ground and 22 to 23K in the air. No way my present hand eye coordination would support flying it now. It makes my knees start shaking just thinking about it.

You can probably pick up a good K&B 7.5 DF for no more than a sport engine and the performance difference is HUGE!!! Also forget about about anything but a true tuned pipe that has a diverging cone/belly/converging cone!

In fact I'd sell the Scat Cat Complete real reasonable.
