Magnum w/Retracts

Anyone flying one yet?

Razor-RCU 06-06-2003 02:22 PM

aha!

Nope  Thought about it- those little B&D pneumatic retracts might fit-

Dude- the Magnum is MUCH faster than anything I was mentioning..

have you seen a Magnum land? they dont kiss the grass, they punch it, and landing under power, zzzzz, thats a mins fast flight wasted

Magnum Landing

Got A full scale runway nearby I can use and my knees are knockin' hard enough after a few minutes flyin' something this fast!

you only get 3-4 mins anyway.
and my knees would be knocking everytime i try to bring in a Maggers for a landing that wont break the retracts, the robatr ones fit, but only the 2-5lbs ones, a magnums 3.5, but can land hard. good luck, reinforce that wing!

I spent some time looking into the retracts-issue earlier, and came to the conclusion that the ones available (and suitable) will not fit in the wing...

The smallest ones from Robart will fit, but they'll never be able to take the punishment that the Magnum will give them. You'll spend more time fixing the retracts than you'll spend flying...

One other issue is that i can hardly land the damn thing at idle, so i would'nt even dream about using it on tarmac with wheels... You would most likely have huge difficulties stopping it...

...and as to the weight of the Magnum: Add retracts, wheels, servos for retracts and rudder/nosewheel-steering, and you'll start to get close to the maximum weight on the small Robarts..

I gave up the idea, but i wish you good luck..

Naaahh...
You americans are spoiled... over here we don't even have paved runways (well some, but very few actually...)... If you have a fine grass field, that's more than enough to put down a Magnum...

I've put mine down straight after a long powerless dive...doing like 60 mph... no problem...
I've also put it down tail first...doing like 25 mph... no problem either....

My point is: retracts only add complicity and weight to an airplane like this... you don't need (want) that...

I mostly fly off grass too...

...and the small Robarts would never cope with that...

Rudeboy: Complicity? You should see my Panavia Tornado-plans... ;)

...or my Dash 8-300 plans..... ;)

You should see the plans for the 8 foot wingspan DH88 Comet with scale retractable landing gear, and all the trimmings I have recently ordered... This thing is going to take me ages to build...:p

All I'm saying that the minimalistic approach is often a good approach when it comes to speed...
