A home for my Rossi 53

I finally got some bling-bling for my Rossi 53. Now, the question is where do I put her. I got limited choice on planes here. I narrowed it down to the following:
WM Barbera Jean - will the Jett muffler clear the firewall? WM Nemesis - will the Jett muffler clear the firewall? GP Shoestring Racer - might the Rossi be too small? GP Cosmic Wind - might the Rossi be too small? Balsa USA Enforcer I would love the Kyosho Kelly but the muffler will not clear the firewall for sure. Same goes for the GP Revolver. I can't get a Patriot here, it would be great if I could. Any input is most appreciated. :) |

Yukon ... I seen them fly and I find that plane is slow and heavy! Even with a Webra I still consider that slow. Hehehehee ... is that your plane? If so how fast is she going?

Any input is most appreciated. :) Unfortunately ARF designers rarely consider a proper 2-c engine installation. Everything seems to be designed for 4-c or electric these days. Take a look at the Sundowner 50 rework over in the SD thread nicely fit OS91 up front. Just takes some modeling skills. You have some work to do. |

Bob ... I did see that job, you are most correct, we are getting too lazy nowadays. SD did a great job and it was not brain surgery. Guess, I am getting way too lazy and expect it all to be ready for me to fly. No more elbow grease. |

What would be refreshing to see is a model that is designed to accomodate the exhaust.
When aeroworks released the .46 size Edge 540, the design included a tunnel at the bottom of the firewall - intent was that the "Baseline" engine would be a Thunder Tiger .46. So that engine could be installed completely stock with no modifications to the plane. Also allowed the possiblity for other stock mufflers. There are a few planes out there where the designers thought ahead a bit. But most are still designing in 4-c mode - just let the exhaust hang out of the cowl. |

Bob ... I remember some planes that use to have that, I had the Global Raven and its got that little cut away. But again those tunnels mean extra cost in manufacturing. It will prob cost them extra USD2 and that is so so so much to them. The wonders of capitalism.

We prefer Mercs and Beemers here ... hahahahaa ... times are bad for all. We are still doing fine here at the moment but unsure how it will be in 3 months time, it will bite us eventually like elsewhere. People are still shopping in Ikea and all here. Still buying luxury cars. Its sad to see that the economy is hurting your average hobbyist, driving to clubs that are far away has become an issue for many. Well time to batten down the hatches and weather this one out.

has any one ever seen a rossi without any displacement or other marks except for rossi down the side and across carb?
bought one cheap and it screams with a 10x6 on a stand. it has a black head and tuned muffler, it took a .60 size mount that i had to sand some material off the rails to get it to set flat in the mount. can anyone help? |

The Rossi 45 and 60 both have black heads. The 45 does have a large case, much bigger than say a Supertigre 45,
Any way you can post a pic of the engine?? |

I find the R45 to be too cranky to enjoy. Its fussy on the tuning, I had to get the tuning right whilst flying her. The mid range is not as sweet as the R53 but she will scream at about 15,000+ RPM with a 10x6.

Also to add to Yukonflyr-
I have both the 45 and the 53, and the 53 seems to be a bored out 45. Both needle easily and run very well, with a nice midrange. I must say the learning curve to reach this ease of operation was steep though! Possible causes of fussiness: Compression too low causing narrow/sensitive needle range (up the Nitro a little, put in a hotter plug- Rossi No. 3 or 4, or decrease the head clearance), propeller too big, I'd suggest 16000+ RPM on the ground- I've found a Bolly Clubman 9.5x6 to work well. Or tuned pipe length too short or too long if that's what you are using. Good luck! P |

Yukon ... I ran on Byron 5%. But the R53 is just so sweet and she is so much nicer than the R45, from my experience.

I own quite few rossi engines, if you're not sure which motor you have, axe rossi website has alot of charts for their engines, but the 53 rossi is actually a stroked 45., which is a bored out .40, nice thing is if you ruin a .40 sleeve and piston, just replace it a with .45 sleeve and piston, and you ready to go, you can ask for a much higher timed sleeve as well.....:D |

CaptB ... the long Jett muffler will not clear the firewall. Not unless I have the muffler mounted exiting on the portside, top ... looks weird and will prob make the plane super duper dirty ...

I use 10% Omega with extra castor, I also use the extra head shim. I use the K&B HP glow plug and all my 45's run just like the 53, really nice. I am suprised that you have a fussy 45, they are some of the best engines that I have:D |

Yukon ... I seen a few R45s run and perhaps we could have not been patient to use the right plugs, nitro, prop etc. I am putting the R53 into a GP Viper for the moment to see what happens. Will still check out the Nemesis/Barbara Jean this weekend to see if it might fit. :)
Yeah ... I add in about almost 3 oz of castor to my gallon of fuel. |
