I noticed the same thing. Perhaps the mods get a free upgrade for their time???
And they complain they work as volunteers....
Anyhow, I am saving up for the copper membership.

Marc and Michael were kind enough to give all of the moderators a Platinum membership. I'm not sure if we get all the extra swag or not, but it's not something I'm too concerned about.

for those who sell infrequently upgrades do not make sense. A user who sells only a couple times a year should not upgrade but rather pay on a "one off" basis in the classifieds which run from 50 cents to $1.75. You could sell a $5000 giant scale plane or $3000 turbine for $1.75. On the auction side you can do "one off's" at 1/2 ebay.
Mods all received the upgrade for the many hours they all put in and the abuse they take for doing what they do. Small token of my appreciation for them helping RCU and its members.

I do hope my previous post didnt reflect that the Mods dont deserve it. On the contrary, they deserve it and then some. I've read some of the stuff they have to deal with and I pity them. Besides, some of them give up their extra time they could be flying or building to babysit.
If my post came across wrong before I apologize.

Phillybaby, that would be like impersonating an upgraded member[
], I will upgrade mine to the next level, just for saying thanks to RCU for the great site.

Before you start pointing your shiny ego accusations at people, you might do well to try to dig up a few facts.
I won't comment further, you can ask Marc if you want to know why I have one under my name. Hint: Ego ain't got nothing to do with it.
I'm Texan, to us, Cornish is a skinny little chicken.

sigh.. no thats not what i meant... there are some people in the world that like their little shiny things. these are the same guys that bring brand new planes to the field $$$$$$$ and never fly them. worse still is when you ask a question about the engine etc and the reply is "you can't afford it" we have one of those guys. same type that would upgrade just to be "better"
these are the "some people"
just coz i see you've upgraded dun mean i'm gonna dip my cap to you
nor does it mean i wont answer or help with replys.

See, there you go making assumptions again. I didn't upgrade. Once again, I ask you to ask Marc about it. The only thing I put under my name was my avatar. Get it??

ok, simple words.
i see you've BEEN upgraded, how you got it i don't care.
whether mods get upgraded because of their efforts and time, people pay for it, either to get the benifits or just to make them selves feel better, if Marc give's them to people for service above and beyond, all deserve to have that little graphic and the things that come with it, but how they got it i don't care and i don't care that they do have it.
if you read my posts again you'll find i was talking to the "badge" egomaniacs and taking the micky out of them.
all the fun intended has now gone[:'(]

I used to make donations on a regular basis because I sold stuff and liked the site and don't mind helping pay for it. Haven't done it yet, but when they start taking paypal for it instead of CC I will think more about joining. Depends on how much I use the site. Haven't been on it as much as I used to be.

I paid for Platinum. I figured everyone would be highly jealous and seeing as though people are now bowing to me as I pass them at the airfield it must be working. When I first arrive a platoon of folks in white lab coats march to my car with military precision, unload, assemble everything, set up my chair, fuel and start my airplane, hand me my ZAP and carry me to the flight line on a throne. Then they gather behind me and chant that I am their god. While I rest on my throne they massage my thumbs, feet and temples and ensure my airplane is squeeky clean for the next flight. All of this from a Platimum membership.
Of course, all of this adds nothing to my already huge ego from being a part of the Book of the Month club twenty years ago.
OK, enough BS. I just figured that if I wanted to use the features, then it would be bought and paid for and it was not much money at all. I have learned so much from RCU, sold a few items, helped people, made friends around the world, read some great humor and generally have had an all around wonderful time using this site, so I feel that I have received more than the $79.00 or whatever it was that I paid for the Platinum Membership.
Humbly Yours,
Mark

phillybaby,
Hi. I know you were just having fun but I know you are a smart guy and realize we must have some integrity in the system about this thing.
Upgrading on RCU is optional. It helps support the site, the employees who work tirelessly that help make it what it is and it is beneficial to those who are active sellers.
Members can upgrade to either level ($20 level or $79 platinum level) and use it simply as a show of support or use it if they trade a lot here. For those who trade infrequently they can simply pay the low fee in our classified system on a per item basis OR 1/2 ebay if they prefer auctions.
Don't worry...no big targets on your ...but I do ask that you continue to be a positive contributor here at RCU and help keep things on topic. The platinum seal thing has little to do with our hobby and this thread at best should go in one of our support forums.

i guess using the upside down "platinum member" as an avatar wasn't so funny after all. it's been removed and i can't put my old avatar back up, i just get an empty window when i try.
am i banned from having an avatar now?
sorry if all this got out of hand.
