Default Put OS50 to Rappy 30

Hello,
What would happen if I just put os50 to my Raptor30 with no modification or part change at all (of course except engine mounting and cooling fan).
Any advice, experience and theory is welcome and appreciated.
Thanks you in advance.

You will have tons of power and will fly great....I would change to metal grips...the stock plastic ones are not good for the power of a 50.

The upgrade kit as longer boom, blades, and diff. gear ratio....but if you calculate the ratio to the engine rpm...the stock 30 gears will work fine...go for it and let us know how it turned out. (I'm considerig doing the same thing, no kit..just engine and mount, and grips)

Thank you for your support. I will try it as soon as possible, the mounting and cooling fan is on the way right now. I think I will get them tommorow.
Do you have some one who try this?

No-but with the small blades you'll have to be real carefull of your head speed...you might want to add a gov., the throttle jockey is only $70.

As said before... the blade grips for a 30 ARE NOT STRONG ENOUGH for the 50...not only may it throw a blade...you will get inverted boom strikes (done this allready with a 30).

After the crash...just add the longer boom, belt and blades...then you'll have something.

I upgraded a 30 to a 50 recently, the upgrade kit came with some instructions that said some people prefer to use the short boom and blades and even the 30 gear ratios! According to them i just paid 99$ for a motor mount! LOL!

Fortunatly when i opened the box for my new OS 50, the instructions didn't say something stupid like "some people prefer to use the TT36"

Its a good thing the folks doing the marketing and instructions are not the folks doing the design. Good heli.

Thanks '3D

Reading those instructions was a once in a lifetime experience. first time i ever was mad and laughing my ass off at the same time!

Velocity,
I suspect you will like the 30 with 50 engine. I don't think over speeding the head is going to be much of a problem. i have heard the 50 peaks at a lower RPM and they use 8.5 gears on the 50 to get higher head speed a tthe lower engine RPM. give it a try. Best of luck!

I try it this week.
I change the gear ratio to 1:8.5, engine and colling fan.
The result is I think I create a monster
She fly at any rpm and any extreme pitch with no bog at all. The trust both on normal fly or inverted fly is tremendous.
Guys, the only things I regret is I don't try this earlier
The fly time is slightly down, but I don't care.
I fly with confidence, know that she will react on my command without bog al all

You should give it a try, you will never regret LOL.
BTW if any one on this forum have a plan to travel to Indonesia (I think you know Bali better than Indonesia, but actually Bali is one of Indonesia's province) please let me know.....

I just wanna try it, but of course I have a little calculation too.
.30 engine max rpm is around 22000, with standart gear ratio I find the max rotor speed is around 2300rpm.
.50 engine max rpm is around 20000, if I still use standart gear ratio then I find that max rotor speed is only around 2000. So to maintain the max rotor speed at around 2300, I must use the 1:8.5 gear ratio. The tremendous torque of 50 engine is a bonus
In my humble oppinion.....
I used header thank, but the fly time is only slightly down

You never need that much head speed...esp with the .50...so the stock gears should work then.

3D:
It's max head speed, not the practical head speed.
The practical head speed is 1500 to 1700 rpm, take the average at 1600.
On 30 gearing with 39 engine, I calculate that the engine will rev around 15200 rpm, it's max rpm is 22000, so they run at 70% his max speed.
The case is same with 50 engine, but 50 engine max rpm is 20000, so the engine will rev 76% of his max rpm.
I think it's still ok, but the fuel economy will poor.
If we use 50 gear (8.5), the 50 engine will rev 13600 at practical rotor speed. So 13600 divided 20000 (engine max rpm) = 68% of his rpm range, the fuel consumtion will still similar with standart.
Just IMHO.

Not sure sure about that, mine started at 2 turns out, and really sucked it down, but i've been leaning it out a few clicks each weekend running around 1.25 turns now and getting a few more minutes out if it, (almost 10 now) the temperature is stil quite low, 150-160 degrees on a hot day, so it seems there is room for more improvement. Someone wrote that he is using a tuned pipe and got a big boost in power and efficency. i hope to try that out in a few weeks to see for myself i don't remember what the claimed time was but it think it was around 15 minutes, not too shabby i think.

3/4 is good news. Maybe mine could improve a lot. what do you get for flight time?
