HI
If your looking for a better clutch solution for the RC10gt try using a 3 shoe fly wheel with aluminum clutch shoes. New Era Hobbies sells the aluminum clutch shoes. After that you should see quite an increase in performance.

But you can't run springs with that setup; it constantly drags. I don't want until a higher than idle RPM, but I want it to bite hard at engagement...

There is another option. Go to a machine shop and ask them to make a set of aluminum M.I.P. clutch shoes for you. It should not take more then 15 min. to make. Now that I have thought about it I think I'm Going to have a friend make me some. Oh ya those clutch shoes from new era hobbies look like they will except MIP springs.

In fact, New Era lists those shoes under 1/8scale vehicles like the Savage.... There is some chance (and decent, I run the Mugen alum. shoe son my sav that are the same size) that they won't work at all... Associated makes a 4 shoe flywheel for the GT; who makes a 3 shoe?

Sorry about that I thought Associated made 3-shoe flywheels. But I did find some aluminum clutch shoes for the stock 2 pin flywheel at a place called Crazy Nut Racing.

My MIP lightened flywheel is capable of having either 2 or 4 clutch shoes on it. Right now I'm using the MIOP 4n1 clutch. How do you think it would compare if I went with the four shoe setup, using 4 factory shoes with the springs?

I'd REALLY like to know how you can run 4 factory shoes with springs; I haven't seen any such setup for the RC10...
I haven't seen the parts or anyone doing it on ANY forums so.... If you can find a working assembly PLEASE let me know.

I'm only asking because the flywheel comes with 4 steel pins to plug into it. It's either a 2 or 4 shoe set up. I was only asking about the 4 shoe option because there must be a reason for the choice of the extra 2 pins. Please excuse my ignorance on the subject.

Hey, no apologies necessary, I am quite ignorant as well; what I have isn't working and I don't know where to go from here.
Associated also makes a 4-shoe flywheel whose dimensions are the same as the lightened unit. The flywheel uses 4 stock shoes with no springs. The RC10GT is cursed with this tiny-ass clutchbell that you can't get a real clutch under. A low torque/hi-HP engine (such as 12s for racing) would work well with the MIP, unfortunately, not everyone is a racer.
The New-era 21 kit has 32P clutchbell that would let you run a REAL clutch, but you need a special mount to move the engine back...

I have a 28 for my Savage, maybe I oughtta move my 27 to my Gt... 2.6+HP in a GT sounds nice, and I do have all of the hardened gears in the tranny...

So just outta curiosity, why does it matter if it creeps at idle?
I use brakes for that
plus, only time my car stands still is if i'm A: refueling, or B: upside down

Earlier in the thread:
Idle is only a small part of it.
But you can't run springs with that setup; it constantly drags. I don't want it to engage until a [decently] higher than idle RPM, but I want it to bite hard at engagement...
