im building the top flight dc-3 and its time for the engine selection. i was told to go with the wankel over the saito 56 because they make such a nice fit. im worried about the size of the 3 blade prop i can swing(if it will look scale), and the sound. thats alot of waisted money if im not satisfied. any help would be nice. does anyone know were i can find a sound file for the os wankel?

Hello; I used a pair of TT pro 46's i my DC3. those OS Wankel''s are over $400 each here. That could be why no one uses them around here. I bought Surpass 70's for that plane but they added too much weight to the plane, so I didn't use them in there. I built the plane with no dihedral (big mistake) because of the extreme taper of the wings. Don't do that, my plane flies very nervously, you can't take your eye off it for a second. I got about 7 flights on it now, but it's no fun to fly, so I just hung it up.

the wankels sound almost identical to 2 c glow engines
will maiden one with wankels this summer
flew an other one with 46 fx
great flyer just watch low speed
loves to snap like the real one
make sure you have proper wash out in wing tips
or use slight up aileron
flys nice on one engine, just keep the speed up

I have two rotarys. They do sound almost the same as a 2c. I like the sound of a pair of four cycles much better. I think the .56 is more than the plane needs. Almost everything flies better when built lighter. Why not try a pair of slightly smaller(lighter) four strokes. I know the 4c won't look as cool on the ground but they will sound much cooler in the air. After all do you want a static display model or a joy to fly.
