Help needed with my OS Max 40SFR engine muffler mount area problem. I can't use the standard OS743 muffler as I broke a chunk off the left mounting hole so I need a bracket style muffler and there isn't any. A OS703 bracket style muffler from a OS Max-H 40R/C engine is too wide to fit the 40SFR mount. Hope someone has a solution.

Thanks Bill, for moving my request and hopefully someone out there will offer some suggestions--maybe even using the regular 40SFR muffler (which is somewhat available in the used arena). However, I would have to solve the missing small chunk off the left mounting hole so maybe someone has made such a repair to the threaded socket in the engine mounting area.

Ahh, forgot about the broken lug. If you find one of the regular bolt-on mufflers, you can clean the case thorougly, add a piece of brass tubing that the muffler bolt can fit through, and use J.B. Weld epoxy to hold it to the case. Of course, you could also try to locate a new case, but it may not be worth the money.

If the crankcase itself is damaged.... ouch !
Perhaps look into a MACS one-piece muffler. They sell a strap-on version that may suite your needs.

Or consider a Davis Sound Master muffler. These are available as strap-on as well. You will have to specify an adapter when ordering.

Bob, very helpful website sources and located an exact answer to a friend's search for a pitts style in-cowl muffler as well. I think I'm on track and sure glad I didn't have to discard this good 40SFR engine at this point.

Thanks to all who suggested places to obtain a strap on muffler. On a whim I logged into Tower and they had just the one at a lower price than the other suppliers.
