I am concidering getting a new r/c electric car as my current hpi rs4 rally is ok, still works, but it is a car for off roading and really ideal for tarmac/concrete use where i use it most and it tends to roll over when i stick it into a corner.

a) What do people think on these?
b) Has anyone own or owned one?
c) Are they any good?

I used to do large scale, but have left it for a while. So i thought i would get back into 1/10 scale and maybe try this drifting marky

this should be in the drifting forums... But to answer your questions, those vehicles that you've stated are full-bred racing cars.

get a tc3 off ebay, and i have a set of drift tires for sale, lmk....

Yeah a TC3 makes a great drifter (what I use) but even more popular are the Tamiya's (TT-01, TL-01) because of their cost. You can cut a lot of corners when getting a drifting car. They don't require much in the performance and handling department. ABS pipe makes great tires (do a search, tons of info on it) and you'll need a motor with good torque. Stock motors are popular. After that it's all about practice.

firstly, thanks to the mod for moving this thread, much appreciated

secondly, i will not be using the car for drifting 100% of the time. Other times i will be using it for racing/sprints.

I used to have a [link=http://www.racing-cars.com/]schumacher racing [/link] car for use in indoor racing on carpet. Maybe i would like to get back into this as well.

I just started Drifting and this is crazy fun.
I have a Tc3 and chose to make it really fast but have no one to really race with.
I run a 10t motor
Abs tires and this thing is awesome i am getting some good high speed drifts going.
the tc3 is a good car if you were to have it already. its all throttle control.
drifting just got me back into RC again!!!

hey, no way you could post a vid of that 10 t could ja? i was thinking about making a sprinter/drifter as well... or just tossing a 6t in my tt-01 and warping into the future... but anyway...

tt-01 is a great beginer car in general... if your going to go tamiya i would look for a tb 02 chassis though... it comes with all the stuff you really want to put on it to make it drift nice... (oil shocks, bearings, adjustable suspension, and a ball diffential)

even that being said my tt-01 runs like a dream... for getting a rtr kit for 120, i dont think i could have done any better... ive beat the thing to heck and nothings gone wong yet (of course, im trying to stay away from beating it, but its just kinda happening...its really more the body than the chassis)

but whatever you do, abs tires are the way to go... get some abs with a inside diameter of 2" and then take your tires off your wheels, and put the abs on... if its to loose, wrap elecrical tape around the wheel...

Looks like you don't have a high enough torq engine. That thing is going mad fast. Drifting is not about speed or low T motors. It's about High Torq. Get yourself a 19T or 27 for that matter and you will see and feel how it feels to get it sideways and stay that way.

if your going to use it 100% of the time for drifting, look at getting a yokomo drift package. highly upgradeable, and you can add your own gear. or get one rtr

I am almost done building my TC3 drifter. I just ordered that new HPI Vertex Ridge Toyota Soarer. Also gonna get the 200mm conversion kit for the TC3 to make it wider. I already have a nice Trinity 27t motor with a 3000 battery. I put some ABS tires on some nice black and chrome rimmed rims. It's gonna look beastly. I gotta take some vids for you guys. I really would like to toss one of the light kits from Tamiya or Yokomo on it for the added realism. This is gonna be one of my winter projects.

basically any 4wd touring car is gonna work. any of the cars you listed should work and also check out the hot bodies cyclone, it is a belt drive pro4 and a dope car.

I drift all my Cars with Polypipe tyres and a Team Orion Method R 19x2T. Offers Brilliant Torque and is really good for Street racing when switched to Radials..

One of the Best Drifters I have seen was a TT-01, Locked Rear Diff and a Team Fantom Pro Stock 27T... Had heaps of Torque and great top end... but not all of us can afford to spend Big Bucks on a motor...
